Possible rule fix for NFL

Not a flame thread, just brainstorming what can be done so no other team has to endure what happened to us last night.
During last 5 minutes of the game, each team gets 1 challenge to review a penalty. Also, the league office/head ref has jurisdiction to call review during final five minutes as well.
This preserves the refs “human element” of the game for 55 minutes, but safeguards the final 5 minutes from huge errors like last night.
The 5 minute mark could be changed, I just arbitrarily chose that as penalties at that point seem magnified by 100x.

The needle and the damage done.

I say in the playoffs, make everything reviewable in the 4th quarter....by the booth along with an extra challenge in the 4th quarter!

The head of officiating at the home office could have buzzed the field with a correction.
The refs as a crew could have huddled to get the call right.
They have in other games.
More silly rules help solve nothing.
Spin doctors are legion.

Only penalty rule that needs to be changed is make helmet-to-helmet a reviewable play. Should be reviewable under the same guidelines as a TD or TO; if called on field only officials can review, if not called the team can review.
Because player safety is the most important thing since the NFL has shown how much they care about the players.

As I previously said:
I’m a fan of giving each team 3 (maybe more) challenges per game. No automatic reviews, every play can be challenged.
Judgement calls can be challenged as well. The CFL already does this. Would obv have to be overwhelming for refs to change a call, but in this instance it would have.
They are rules for a reason. If the refs can’t enforce them in real time when it is happening right in front of their face then it needs to happen on the back end.

Yeah well what happens if there are two bad calls and the challenge has been used. They need to have two booth officials that are not in the same room and if both of them signal for a flag then a booth flag is thrown. It keeps them from conspiring with each other and puts two more sets of eyes on the play.
That being said. This entire officiating crew needs to be fired. Especially the two refs that were 5 feet from the play. If you watch the replay you can see the black ref waiting on what the other one is doing. He wanted to throw the flag but decided to go with the white guy because he was so animated. Those two refs need to be fired along with the crew chief. The rest of the crew should be barred from ever doing another post season game.

That wasn't an error bro. An error would have been one of the refs throwing a flag and one not. That would have been an error one the non-throwers part.
That my friend was a fix, by the NFL to secure to large market teams in the SB.

Exactly this. The rules were already in place that would have gotten that call correct.
Refs huddle all the time when they deem necessary. They didn't here because they were happy with the call. There wasn't going to be any help for the Saints last night from the Officiating crew, period, no matter how many additional new rules were in place.
Fact is that the nature of the game and the inconsistent officiating has made the NFL's product less credible.
