Per Florio, Michael Thomas was NOT suspended

PFT has obtained a copy of the letter that the Saints sent to Thomas. The subject line of the letter uses the phrase “Fine for Conduct Detrimental to the Club.”
Here’s the key language: “[T]his letter is to notify you that you have been fined in the amount of $58,823.53 . . . for engaging in conduct detrimental to the club.”
In other words, Thomas was fined, not suspended. It’s a strange development, given that the discipline was so widely characterized as a suspension. Although on the surface it’s a distinction without a difference, the difference between a fine in the amount of one game check and a one-game suspension means that $27.95 million in future guarantees have not been voided.

I can't believe we have to address nonsense like this instead of just trying to get better as a team.

Don't let Fun Bunch see this.

Smart of the Saints. Attacking Leonard Fournettes guarantees only caused more headaches for Jacksonville.
Hopefully it’s message sent and received.

Shows what an embarrassment the world of sports journalism has become. Just running to social media, more worried about being first than being right.

FIFY. This type of reporting to be first, not accurate, isn't limited to sports journalism. What makes it worse, is they won't produce a retracement to correct the statement. They will either hope it gets buried with all of the new rush articles, or they simply delete it because that means it didn't happen.

Couldn't the letter still be valid in conjunction with a suspension? The fine and the suspension don't necessarily have to be mutually exclusive.

It's the NFL. There is a union. If he was suspended, it would be more money and listed in a letter.

The bottom line is next time that $27.95 million in future guarantees will go bye bye.
Duncan's report is a warning of what it could have been.
Thomas and his agent have been warned publicly and privately.

I really don’t understand how some of you of so called follower of this team believe many if any of the reports about this team. They play everything so close to the vest and you would of never of heard any of this come from one of Payton’s staff members. The media legit made up a punishment and then went and blasted it all over the world. Which is typical these days. Not to say there isn’t an issue, i just find it humorous every time you idiots freak over something that is being fed to you by people who just make assumptions then broadcast them as facts. Is Thomas becoming a headache? Sure does look like it. Is it a major deal? I don’t think so now but he needs to get his act together.

You literally just made that up.

So it was so publicized, why didn’t the team put out a statement saying he wasn’t suspended?

Um what lol? A suspension is a major fine as you do not receive game checks. Do you really think he doesn't get a formal letter from the team/NFL for a suspension? This isn't high school.

The Saints may have chosen not to pick a $27.95 million fight with Thomas and the NFL Players Association, since the matter undoubtedly would have gone to a grievance

Probably cause SP hasnt ever cared about what the media is saying. He hates the media. Rightfully so. The media just legit made up a part of this story and ran with it.
