Former Austin Peay DB victim of brutal Atlanta Falcons tryout hoax
This crosses the line between cruel and evil.
Juantarius Bryant, a former defensive back at Austin Peay, received a text from a 404 area code claiming to be from Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Dean Pees. Bryant was being invited to the Falcons’ camp for a tryout.
Only the text was not from Pees, it was an impostor claiming to be the 71-year-old longtime NFL assistant.
When Bryant arrived at what he believed was going to be a tryout, he was turned away. COVID-19 protocols limited the number of tryout players a team could have at its rookie minicamps.
Bryant showed total class in his response to being the victim of a cruel hoax.
“I honestly would not like the person who pulled this stunt on me to be publicly humiliated,” he told ESPN via email. “I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.”
Bryant’s agent has been in touch with the Falcons.
Bryant became a first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference defensive back by his senior season in 2019 after making 107 tackles (2.5 for loss). In his career, he played in 43 games for Austin Peay with 242 tackles, three forced fumbles, and an interception.

He probably did it to himself in order to get free press and a sympathy tryout. Pretty smart actually. That would also explain why he doesn't want the culprit to be revealed.

The only thing he’s a victim of is the name his dumb fuk mom gave him

I hope the person who did that to him stubs his toe, gets a paper cut, then gets audited.

The Falcons hired a 71 year old to be their DC? A guy that's already retired (and come out of retirement) twice? Word

Either way, he handled it well if he got duped or if he concocted an original scheme for a sympathy tryout.

I agree or his agent sucks. Why wouldn't his agent verify this invite? Your client calls you and says I got invited to the Falcons minicamp.. and you don't say wait why wasn't I notified or let me confirm the details. Something is not right here

Sucks for him if true and appears to be a good kid who seems to have handled it quite well. I’m still a bit skeptical of it being a hoax to get a tryout somewhere, however.

Cut the kid some slack, he was a 3 year starter, capped with 28 pass break ups his senior year. Give him a chance!

First letter in his sig looks like a noose ......

self created hoax imo.

He might have been given a chance if it weren't for COVID protocols.
He can't go to any rookie camp that already has the maximum amount of players invited. I'm assuming that most or almost all teams were full for rookie camp.

It's possible.
If it wasn't a self created hoax, then he handled it very well. He deserves respect for that.
If it was a self created hoax, then he's a little pathetic. He deserves to not be taken seriously anymore. Still, it's not like this makes him a criminal or anything...just pathetic really.
