The officiating this year has been absolutely atrocious.

They picked two blatantly innocent calls to penalize.
That's the surprising thing to me.
Not even disputable.

They don't care. They know that absolutely nothing will happen to them, no matter how blatant. shite, Riveron is actively refusing to enforce the new PI review rule because he doesn't like it and not a thing is happening there either. Because the league office endorses it and these bad calls.

Come on people, NFL Refs are just picking up some under the counter money. Making big impact wrong calls raises the price for future wrong calls. You got the money, Refs got the calls.

Bet that screwy Ref tonight made a $100K.

Crocked bastids!

The fricked up thing is they don't even try to hide it. They know we'll still watch, pay for tickets and merch.

In the 1Q, the Lions got a touchdown on 4th down that from the side angle down the line, was clearly not a touchdown. We can act like it was close now if you want, but in the live thread literally everyone except one lions fan agreed it wasn’t a TD. Should have been packers ball and 3-0 Lions.

That TD that they didn’t actually get gave them a 13-10 lead going into half, which should have been a 6-10 deficit.

Then, in the second half the score was 13-13 (should have been 6-13) when the Packers stopped the lions and forced them to punt. The packers player muffed the punt, but the camera angle they showed clearly showed 2 lions players dive and muss the ball and a packers player dive on the ball and cover it, down by contact. The refs gave the ball to the lions. The lions didn’t advance the ball at all off of that muff, but they were already in field goal range, so it was a free 3 points.

The score is now 16-13 Lions when it should have been 6-13 Packers.

That’s ten points literally given to the lions.

So from the bogus 16-13 score the Lion’s get 2 field goals to make it 22-13 Lions. (Actually should be 12-13 Packers) and now all of a sudden the packers are down 2 scores when they should be winning.

Y’all know what happened from there, and I’m not denying they were bad calls, but the packers got screwed over pretty hard as well.

Funny thing is to me the entire night people were talking about how unlucky the packers kept getting on calls among other things, but the second that hands to the face happened 50 people came in the MSB thread saying the Lions had been screwed all night.

OK, so if I understand your point, it's that if a season full of really bad calls from incompetent officials goes equally bad for both sides it effectively negates all bad calls. In the end, we have a great product that's fair to both sides and a joy to watch.

OK, I got it.

The Packers got away with having 13 men on the field at one point. Just stop

No, I didn’t say bad refs cancelled each other out. I just don’t agree that the game was fixed for the packers or some bs like that.

It was a poorly officiated game but it was poorly officiated on both sides.

This i what bothers me. Is the officiating garbage? Yep. Is the officiating actively "fixing" games? No

It's just incompetence.

They found out in the Saints game last season just how far they can push things with no repurcussions. If nothing happened in a game that important then I'm sure they have no worries about doing things in a regular season game

When it gets to this point, it makes you wonder, when will it happen again and will my team be next? I hate to play victim in anything, but its hard not to knowing that they have complete control over the game and nothing is being done to control it. Just like boxing, their is no overseer.

To make it worse, the NFL referee union just signed an extension. So we stuck with them.

The million dollar question is: Would you ride it out with these refs or would you go back to the college Division 2 refs we had a few years ago?

It's not adequately explained by stupidity, as these calls are atrocious for highly paid skilled officials and correlate too well with NFL " entertainment values".

I used to have the mentality that refs never cost teams games. Even in the NFC Championship game i stood by that. I felt that over the course of a game teams need to play better to avoid having those calls end a game.

Now, i just feel like that mindset gives refs a pass for them not doing there jobs. Teams can do stupid stuff that can cost them games but refs should not be helping aid that.

I'll indulge you simply because I'm bored:

A) First and foremost - changing one play changes the entire game. You can't simply say "should have been a 6-10 deficit". The Lions could have very well gotten a safety and the ball right back if the 4th down touchdown was overturned.

B)
quote:

In the 1Q, the Lions got a touchdown on 4th down that from the side angle down the line, was clearly not a touchdown.

Rebuttal: The two camera angles were 1) to the left of the goal line pylon - which would give a false impression of shortened depth (ie short of the goal line) and 2) directly overhead, just short of the goaline, which would give false impression of slightly deeper depth (ie crossing the goal line). The proper call for that situation is to call the TD and allow it to be reviewed automatically rather than call it short and force a challenge.

C)
quote:

The packers player muffed the punt, but the camera angle they showed clearly showed 2 lions players dive and muss the ball and a packers player dive on the ball and cover it, down by contact.

Rebuttal: We clearly saw two different things. ( Here is the video incase you need to refresh your memory) Tra Carson for the Packers fell on the loose ball but did not have clear possession as he only had one arm on it and it was pinned by the ground. Which is not considered possession by the NFL Rulebook - Section 2 Article 7
