This will end well. It may explain the anomalies in officiating. This seems like a cover move to sanction even more gambling corruption.

As a Saints fan, with the controversial playoff officiating that cost the Saints a Superbowl appearance, this NFL move seems to call into question all officiating integrity.

quote:

The NFL’s complicated relationship with sports wagering is about to get more complicated.

quote:

The league office is looking for a V.P. of sports betting, reports Brad Allen of LegalSportsReport.com, via Sports Business Daily.

quote:

The job description, per the report, focuses on four primary duties: (1) continuing to protect the integrity of the game; (2) advancing the NFL’s brand and reputation; (3) driving fan engagement globally; and (4) growing the value of the NFL’s data and intellectual property.

quote:

That last part is a fancy way of saying “maximize the revenue” related to gambling. And there’s plenty of revenue to be maximized.

quote:

But it’s a delicate balance. As the league identifies strategies for raking in more cash, the league will need to be willing to spend more money in order to ensure that temptations associated with legalized gambling don’t and won’t hurt the game’s integrity. And for a league that has a reputation for reacting to embarrassing situations, the league needs to be much more proactive when it comes to the potential pitfalls of sports betting.

quote:

That will be the task of the V.P. of sports betting, and it would be wise for the league to consider hiring someone directly from the gambling industry, someone who knows the dark underbelly of wagering and who can keep it from hurting the league as it tries to capitalize on a potentially huge revenue stream.

I wonder if the passive NFL viewer is aware of how easy it is to manipulate the outcome of an NFL football game. A phantom hold on 3rd down here, a soft PI call there…NFL officiating integrity has been in question for a long time, and now with billions of dollars in legal betting money at stake, it will only be questioned further.

The NFL is stark, raving nuts for wanting to connect with sports betting.

How about pass interference be clearly defined by NFL 1st and taught to the officials? Or is the the 1st recommendation by the VP of Gambling/Gaming?

I'm surprised they're looking to replace Bill Vinovich. He's been a hell of a VP the last couple of seasons. Maybe he's getting promoted to Pres.

Agree.

Don’t understand the sentiments in this thread that seem to be negative.

Gambling and sports are synonymous.

Like the comment the OP poor idea about taking away gambling....

You take away gambling and you lose half your audience immediately. That’d be about the dumbest thing possible.

People want to bet on sports. They need to find a good way to do it that doesn’t compromise integrity

It’s hard to believe people still watch the NFL. That Saints fans do shows how addictive professional sports are. Start looking at professional sports as a drug rather than entertainment and it makes sense. Add gambling and you have two activities that produce the same chemicals in the brain as actual physical drugs.

The NFL is an evil business, in line with Big Tobacco and Big Alcohol. I’ve boycotted for years and the new free time has allowed me to write twelve books.

Why again do people pay to watch countless hours of grown men playing a game? I suppose only after letting your brain reset does this question make sense. And then you’ll probably likewise see the absurdity of it all.

Not really..the game is great. And you want to watch the best of the best play that game.

The nfl leadership is ruining the experience and fricking up things like life long fanhoods.
