This is a yes

“ The New Orleans Saints picked up fifth-year options for cornerback Marshon Lattimore and offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk, per ESPN's Field Yates.

The options are fully guaranteed under the conditions of the new collective bargaining agreement, which was officially approved by players Sunday.

Lattimore is a two-time Pro Bowler and the 2017 Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year. He had five interceptions during his first season and four forced fumbles in his second campaign. The ex-Ohio State star only allowed 50 percent of targets in his coverage to be completed in 2019, per Pro Football Reference.”

2 of the best players in the league at their positions in their primes on a discounted price for 1 final season...I would have to think so lol

It’s for 2021 not 2020

Not saying your post said otherwise, just clarifying it’s the 5th year rookie option

MDS's suggestion for the best approach with these two. Sign Ram to a new contract in 2020 if possible or 2021 off season. Force Latt to play out his fifth year in 2021, then franchise him in 2022. After that let him walk, because his contract will be cap breaking. We get 3 more seasons out of him this way, and that's enough time to start trying to find his future replacement.

Now if he decides to sign a cap friendly deal, then we do that; however, I don't think it's in his nature. He's going to break the bank with his first non-rookie contract.

Ram is an absolute need to keep player. He will prove to be the best RT in the league this year. Get him locked up as soon as financially possible, because he is a player you never let go at a critical position.

There are 4 players you keep at all costs:
-Franchise QB
-Franchise Tackle
-Elite Edge Rusher
-Elite CB

You lock up both Ram and Lattimore. You can move on from guys like Kamara or Thomas, but these are the 4 premium positions that are damn near impossible to find.

I agree. I think Latt has been inconsistent in his game to be worth the money he will command once his contract negotiations begin. I should've added that as my reason in my post. Yes he is one of the best in the game, but his contract will break the cap and would be for a guy that does take games off at times.

I think we can use him for 3 more seasons and try to find his ultimate replacement in the meantime. Now if we never can find anyone to do that, then maybe we will need to bite the bullet and sign him long term. Really my main point is we need Ram signed sooner rather than later, and we can wait on Latt and get him playing for us without a new contract for a while.

I'm not totally against that but you never want to get rid of elite corners if you can help it

I think sometimes people are too hard on lattimore
He never gets help really

A down game for Lattimore is still the best game for any corner that has ever worn the black and gold. His technique can get sloppy, but he is the absolute best CB we have had and top 5 in the league.

Considering our CB's of the last decade, it's hard to suggest letting Latt walk and trying to draft his replacement.

What concerns me about Ram is the contract Peat got- over the next season if he continues at same level of play, Ram is a must, so does Peat get dumped after next season to make cap room? You can't pay all those big salaries on the O-line, and how much can then be deferred on Peat's long term deal, if he is willing?

Yeah, but I don’t think either Lat or Ram are playing in ‘21 without new deals.

WAR daddy expires after this year and you could extend Armstead. Re-signing Ram will be a non-issue.

People suggestion we not re-sign Lattimore are crazy. You understand that we can do the things we do on D BECAUSE you have him locking one side of the field up? Not to mention he’ll only be 25 when his contract expires...You pay those guys if you got em

Hope the Saints have enough money left for Big Ram and Lattimore after that ridiculous contract given to Project Peat!!
