What is the overall purpose of keeping him around? I see a lot of talk about trading ivory instead who I assume makes less than Ingram and is way more productive.
The Ivory/Ingram dilemma starts with Ivory. First off, this job would be 100% Ivory if he could have stayed healthy in 2010. Since then his record has not been great either, in that respect.
Ivory said last year to the press that he wanted to get more reps on the field or the Saints needed to trade him. I think the Saints would keep Ivory around another year to see which player is a better fit, if it were up to them. When a player is not satisfied with his play time and wants a chance to shine, you can't keep him back.
I definitely think he is the better of the two. The maddening thing about this situation is we are in no better place to assess the players this off-season than we were last off-season.

I agree 100%. I wasn't trying to start a who's better than who thread. Just trying to figure out why ivory was the one being considered for a trade instead of Ingram. Somewhere in this clusterfrick of a thread the questions have been answered

Hey I'm here. Where you at? Hiding in your office like a bitch?

Ivory has that big play, Barry Sanders-esque type of potential. But he's just got to be in an offense that utilizes him more, and he knows that. Hope he does well wherever he lands, as long as we aren't playing them.

Glad I listened to you about getting an avi. Wouldn't want to be on your bad side.

Hmm...It wouldn't surprise me if the falcons tried to replace Turner and I don't think Jaquiz (however you spell it) is going to be their feature back.
Don't do it Loomis!

You wanna head over to the help board and get a name change to "The Laundry?"

I appreciate the suggestion, and as much as you scare me, I'll have to respectfully decline. I think the avi shouts it out for everyone to understand.

It's always possible they could play for your rival, but the benefit to this year is he is restricted, so at least Loomis gets to push him in a different division if he so desires. I think it is a forgone conclusion that he is going though, he has stated he is not happy with his number of snaps.
I don't think he'd be happy in Atlanta either to be honest. Saints and Atlanta are both passing oriented offenses, with other, more experienced players that would get reps before you. He'd be trading a dime for 2 nickels at that point.

False. My favorite thing to say is "Fabulous!"

but up until the last 5 or 6 games Ingram has been pretty below average IMO.
I think the last 5 games are more indicative of his talent than the first half of the season was. Bitten by injury and the fact that the running game coordinator Kroemer had to be the HC had a lot to do with it I'm sure.
He will absolutely be the feature back, if Payton already doesn't consider him that, shortly.

Because he's from Alabama and a winner. Saints need winners.

Ingram is trash. He's the 4th best back on our roster, yet we used 2 firsts to get him. Just another example of a Saban player being overvalued and overdrafted; see Kareem Jackson, James Carpenter, rolando McClain, etc..
