Mainly, because he is in great hands, with DL coach, Ryan Nielsen.

Dude just had 4 of his NC State defensive linemen that he developed drafted in the first four rounds: Chubb (1st rd), Justin Jones & BJ Hill (3rd rd), & Kentavious Street (4th rd).

It's also no coincidence Cam Jordan had his best year yet as a Saint (1st team All-Pro) under Nielsen's first year here. Furthermore, Alex Okafor had a career high in tackles, while missing 5 games!

I'm normally pretty reserved regarding player predictions (so I'm not exposed as the idiot that I am in a bumped-up thread) but I hold no reservations about Davenport's development under Nielsen, and confidently predict Davenport will be a star...soon.

He's gonna have to learn to use his hands a lot better. He has all the physical tools to be a superstar.

It will be a huge adjustment going against NFL tackles.

What prompted me to post this topic is that I just got finished watching a bunch of Ryan Nielsen mic'd up videos on YT teaching NC State players technique, especially hand violence. Nielsen's got this.

Davenport may very well be a league-wide star by the last quarter of the season.

You can say the same thing about the tackles who will have to face him on a weekly basis. Davenport's combination of size, speed, flexibility & power is rare. He will be tough to block on physical ability alone in one on one matchups which occur often as teams focus on Cam Jordan. He will really become scary once he develops & masters a vast array of pass rush moves in years 2-4.

Screw the "metrics," if he gets better every game, he's a home run pick in my book. Consistent pressure and presence by the last quarter of the season is a win for me.

I agree. So many UTSA stars and pro bowlers. Unreal talent. The rest of the nfc south should be quite scared and unsure what to do. I mean, do you put a CUSA tackle on his side to shut him down or just nip it with a solid guard from the ACC?!
So many dilemmas. Shucks.

I wonder if they said the same about Khalil Mack coming from the world beater buffalo university?

Because Saints haven't found gold before in places like Bloomsburg, Pine Bluff, and Hofstra...

Mississippi Valley State also created the GOAT WR. Talent comes from everywhere not just power 5 schools.

Kikaha eventually gets to the QB with his ridiculously wide path and his 4.9 speed. Davenport can certainly do that better and actually has the strength to bull rush which I saw him do on tape and uses hands well enough. He also can set the edge pretty well. He mainly needs to get comfy in the 3 point stance. His fundamentals are not raw. He’s going to be solid coming out of training camp.

Reuben Foster is crazy and you can’t fix crazy. He will be out of the league sooner rather than later.

You can add in Demarcus Ware who came out of Troy since Davenport has been compared to Ware.

Yep & that idiot poster fails to realize that Foster still has a pending felony charge for a rifle that is illegal in California. Not to mention a marijuana possession charge in Alabama which is significant because Foster is already in the league's substance abuse program for a diluted sample at last year's combine. It must suck to be as dumb as both Foster & TurdSaint.
