Lets say you got an #1 draft pick offer for Taysom

Say the Foreskins (or another team) called, and offered a number 1, and it's a good chance to be a top 15 pick.
Thumbs up for Yes and down for no.
Note, Taysom has 2 more seasons and he is a free agent. You better believe he will leave for a legit chance and $ to start.

As much as I'm a fan of Taysom, you're not getting a first or even a 2nd rounder for him

You have to take the trade. He still needs to develop into a true pocket passer that can go through his reads. There are times that he has done it in the preseason, but he's too quick to tuck and run after his 2nd read. He may be able to get there, but you lose the luxury of the rookie pay scale on an unknown. Once he becomes a FA, if he's going to be the starter, he will want $20+M.
Hopefully he gets at least 1 game with most of the starting O-line. That could change my opinion if he shows the ability to make plays from the pocket.
If TB was really sick, Payton missed a good opportunity to have Hill play the entire game. TB could have dressed as the backup if Hill needed to come out of the game.
The only starting QB, not on a rookie deal, making less than $20M is Dalton at $16M.

Dude you really believe some team will give you a first round pick for hill smh

First of all, Taysom Hill is on the last year of his deal. He's also a RFA after this year. He'll probably be here next year.
Secondly, nobody in their right mind would give a 1st rounder for him. Probably not even a 2nd or 3rd...maybe not even a 4th. The guy is 28 years old & he's not that accurate of a passer.
Hill is what he is...backup QB, Wildcat QB, WR at times, kick returner, & special teams demon. He can probably do this for another 5 years, or until he starts losing speed/athleticism due to his age.

Man preseason reactions are getting out of hand. Did everyone forget the first game when TB played lights out and Hill shite the bed.
The fact is neither is Drew Brees and neither will look good on a regular basis without constant reps with the ones allowing them to develop. Chill the frick out.

It's kinda weird bc at this point I wouldn't trade him for a 1 but I also wouldn't offer a 1 if I was another team. His potential is too great to trade away yet, but he's too raw to trade for. If that makes any sense at all.

I stopped there

I guarantee that CSP would trade him for a 1st. I know CSP likes him & CSP is the one who poached him from Green Bay. That being said...CSP would take a 1st, then he would probably call other head coaches around the league & make fun of whoever gave up a 1st for Hill.

The only deal that I would entertain would be Mahomes for Hill, and KC would still need to toss in a first round pick.

When Taysom is playing the way he did yesterday it looks like CSP is a genius for creating an "ATH" position on offense that has never been done before. His offense will be mimicked just like it was when Drew and Reggie first got here putting up #1 offenses year after year.

Yep. Also, Taysom can't do all of this stuff if he's the #2 QB. I don't think Taysom is accurate enough to lead us to a Super Bowl, & I also don't want him to stop being our offensive "athlete" & ST demon.
I think it's smart to keep Taysom as the #3 & always have another #2. The only way Taysom should be #2 is if he develops into a better QB & proves that he can be trusted against #1 regular season defenses. He hasn't come close to doing that yet. Improving his accuracy would go a long way in Taysom becoming the #2.

I don't know this to be true or not. The biggest thing i've seen is you can't bring Taysom Hill into the offense and expect him to mimic Drew Brees. You have to evolve the offense to completely fit Taysom's skillset. Maximize his athleticism and skillset.

We wouldn't know for sure until we saw it. I just think playoff defenses would suffocate Taysom like they suffocated Lamar Jackson last year.
If your biggest strength is running & you're not very accurate...usually you get exposed in the playoffs eventually.
I'm not saying it's impossible, but CSP would have to come up with a brilliant plan to make it happen...& I mean brilliant.

According to Rev apparently we did and we declined.

CSP flipping an undrafted waived player for a first rounder would be one of the greatest coaching stories in NFL history. Absolutely, if someone offered a 1st, we take it.
No one is going to offer a first for him.

Lamar was a rookie. I think Taysom's current passing skillset is far advanced than Lamar's rookie season passing skillset.
Saints have loaded skill positions and a pretty great OL. Combined with Taysom's ability to move the chains on the ground, i think he has the ability to be a nice passer, taking advantage of Kamara's receiving skills... i think it would be an exciting year to watch what Payton can do with that offense.

Again,
A person really close to the team has factual knowledge we were offered a first and declined.
