Vikings said they practice that play all the time, but they've never actually throw it to Diggs. They go for the quick out routes. They've probably never seen a defense let the corner route go that open.

I take my chances with an nfl safety making that play, do you not agree?

Let me try this a different way - what was the purpose of 2 LBs on that play?
Posted on 1/15/18 at 11:43 am to slackster
I think the vikings were actually trying to get to midfield and then throw a hail mary.
But, we guarded the short route and allowed Diggs to run free, so they took it obviously

Likely because there safety makes the play

The vikings were trying to setup a hail mary there.

Let me rephrase it Barney style. Likely because there is a safety there to make a play. A lot won’t be drawn up for someone who doesn’t have a chance to get the result they are looking for

Not a zone that covers underneath and allows a wide open diggs

He doesn't realize that Vikings don't throw to Diggs because they wouldn't run that defense.

One of the LBs job was to bail to the middle. He drifts to help on three rec side. Backer on the weak side had back in case he came out of the backfield.

We rushed 4 guys, the Vikings had trips to the weak side of the field, and they set 4 receivers out on the okay, with the RB leaking out after blocking.
That means the Saints had 3 defenders for the trips side of the field, 2 LBs in the middle of the field, and 2 DBs for Theilen.
It's maddening how well man would have helped in this case, with help over the top. Two LBs makes no sense whatsoever.
Lastly, 13 seems to blame the football IQ of the players for executing poorly. How much IQ does it take to play man?

It takes talent.
If they tried your cover 3 man and some wazoo shite happened like last night you’d be on here critiquing the defense

Finally someone whose had it right....
Not saying the formation wasn't a good one....it was the wrong one at the time, yes William shoulda just tackled him but he fricked up, 3 backers maybe even 4(w/1db) at the 50 and 4 dbs at 35 keying receivers on each side .....they have a ton of variant prevents they coulda ran to AVOID a freak breakdown like what occurred
Bottom line is yah, you had 1 defender in the zone on top against 2 receivers approaching with a db underneath trailing and a lber trying to trail way out of the fricking play...come on man...in a prevent we woulda had gang tacklers and game woulda over ...insurance dumbasses... Insurance...shite the saints just as soon blitz the way the coverage was set....we wasted 9 PLAYERS on that play....this something u won't understand lol
Learn football before u speak
