Work has been a little crazy so haven’t been able to keep up as closely as I like too. Thoughts on how these two players performed in camp/preseason? I liked both picks at the time, do they have starter potential down the line? Thanks appreciate the info!

Checking in to say that my official opinion is that I have no thoughts in either.

Pro Bowl level player in Young. Possible HoF for Book.

A lot of people like Book but I’m not sure I see it. Although I see the value in giving him a while to progress.

Payton sees Book as a potentjal "Drew Brees with wheels". Has good speed, 4.5 forty, but even while on the run can hit a target downfield without having to stop. Accuracy is very good, even if arm strength is average. There's a reason he was never displaced by higher ranked QB prospects while at Notre Dame.

Watch his 2020 highlights at Notre Dame and his pro day work out. You will see what CSP likes. But his long throws do need work.

What I see is a guy who doesn’t make decisions well. He can’t pull the trigger on the primary and secondary receiver, so he scrambles. People see him run around and throw and they like the way he looks. You’ve can’t make it in this league with those qualities. You got to throw to your receivers in the pocket most of the time.

I agree with that assessment. But like I said, maybe he can learn how to improve his decision making because he obviously has some playmaking ability.

The people knocking Brees on his arm strength his last few years will see the resemblance in Book's arm.

Landon Young

Didn’t hear his name mentioned all preseason but apparently he made the team.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Landon Young have a Zach Strief type career: Backup for a few years, then a swing man who gets some PT, and eventually a starter at G or RT. They have similar size and pedigree

Obviously Payton likes something he sees in Book. There are lots of guys with size and arm strength who failed as NFL QB's, and lots of guys who lacked size and arm strength who succeeded. Intangibles are the X factor for every position, but especially at QB. From the little bit I saw of Book in the pre season, I liked him. If he just becomes a solid backup QB who plays in the league for 10-12 years, that's a good return on a 4th round investment
