1.) You assume the best offer on the table for Mack is a distant future first rounder on a playoff/SB caliber team

2.) trade away what might have been the Saints 3rd-4th highest graded defensive player today in this past years draft that is already contractually locked into a 4-5 year team friendly deal with one of the highest ceilings of any player in the whole draft

3.) All to acquire a contract year player who wants to be the highest paid player in the league on the defensive side of the ball...you either offer him that contract and lose the cap you will need to retain at least 1-2 of your own upcoming priority rookie FAs or you Franchise tag him in back to back seasons and piss him off....all while losing the flexibility of having a rookie contract FA deal in the first place

4.) We drafted Davenport for Breezy. In 2020 at the absolute latest the Saints need to be thinking about the Saints and the QB who will hopefully be taking the helm for the next 10-15 years and a 1st round pick might come in handy for that process.
