Jeff Ireland is not going anywhere
Posted by Rohan Gravy on 1/13/22 at 9:13 pm453
This move is to make him a member of the lifelong membership club
With Mickey Loomis and Sean Payton
He will get a huge raise and extension
Now
Jeff Ireland deserves the GM spot with the Saints
He has been our GM
Then he will turn around and give Sean Payton a huge raise and extension
So the Giants (who would never hire Sean Payton, and you know nothing about the NFL, if you think they would)
So the Giants won’t hire him away from us.
How can so many Saints fans be so naive?
Also
It took a Chicago Bear GM to turn the Saints organization into a legitimate NFL organization
You kids don’t know what I’m talking about
But carry on with your naivety

You’re a joke

You are consistently the dumbest poster on this board. And that's saying a lot considering how many dumb posters we have here.

Need a post off between Rohan, poster that wants Ryan over Winston, and poster that wanted Darnold (and another 20+ QBs) over Winston

Certainly you are the only poster who remembers Jim Finks.....

I dunno why, but I despise your use of a line space between everything you type.

That cheap chain smoking muthafricka was one of the biggest reasons our offense sucked under Mora. I appreciate what he helped build on the defensive side of the ball but his outdated way of thinking even in the late 80s/early 90s was ultimately the biggest reason the Saints couldn't compete with San Francisco in the old NFC West.

Same. It makes his already atrocious posting that much worse.
Finks did many good things to stabilize the Saints but you're right about his old school thinking. In 1988, he took Ironhead Heyward in the first round over the best available receiver for our needs, Willie "Flipper" Anderson. We already had Mayes and Hilliard.
Of course, if he had taken the right running back - Thurman Thomas - we could have forgiven him.

Finks was more responsible for the 84 cubs than he was the 85 bears.

We absolutely competed with the 49ers.
We taught the rest of the league how to play defense against their west coast offense.
We also lost several of the games by horrible officiating (nothing new)
The best one that comes to mind is Jerry Rice spiking the ball on the one yard line and the refs still called a TD.
Also, let’s not forget that if Debartolo wasnt cheating the salary cap
He could have never kept that team together for so long.
I’d say we competed and were arguably the second best team in the league.
P.S.
How much better would the Saints have been if Sean Payton would have fielded just middle of the road defenses over his tenure

Finks hated Carl, Mora basically told Finks "he goes, I go"
Yes, I'm old, but worked in the org as an intern many years ago....Famous quote from Finks, "If it wasn't for that MF'er Carl Smith we would have won 3 super bowls with that defense."

It's Like When People Type Like This. It's actually harder to type that way or like how OP does . Makes zero sense.

Yet at the end of the day, how many NFC West titles, playoff wins & Super Bowl wins did this bring?

And what was Finks doing the whole time? Trying to be cheap. Did you forget about the whole Bobby Hebert contract fiasco? Finks was known across the NFL as an ornery, cheap bastard who was also hard to work with.

Carl Smith was not a very creative offensive mind by any means but Finks didn't help the situation either with his lack of attention to the WR & QB positions.
