Nobody truly knows unless you are a defensive player for the Saints. The NFL can do that though. Over the years I’ve even seen Brees and the O look like shite and shutdown for an entire game, it just happens.

Lattimore’s play last year was really key. He along with Cam’s pro bowl year and Okafor’s strong play before he went down made it a lot easier to hide some of our defensive liabilities.

They didn’t look prepared at all. They might as well not practiced or done any game planing for the last two weeks.

On paper they are more talented than last year and I dont believe in season long flukes. I think they may have read their own press clippings. Either way, they better right the ship soon. They have a tough schedule and cant afford to give any more cupcakes away like they did last week.

Pass rush wasn't effective at all

Linebackers and D tackles were pushed around all day

Corners were essentially thrown on like a high school 7 on 7

Well if it was a strength at that time, it wasn’t a hiding any liability. I think Dennis Allen wants to run “scheme” vs fit his scheme to the personnel at times. We should see a better fit to the team’s talents I’m the upcoming week.

I’d like to think it was a multitude of things: Allen’s scheme, TB changing playcallers at the last minute to Todd Monken, the D buying their own hype and just overall didn’t come ready to play

If the line gets pressure everything will fall into place. It’ll make stars in the level 2 and 3.

I’m dumbfounded by the way they played against Tampa, but that’s what happened last year in week 1 & 2. It’s the nfl. Everyone is a baller. Don’t show up and you are exposed.

We were a middle of the road defense and that’s all we need. It isn’t like those players just all of a sudden suck now. They had bad games, which that and a ton of other things played into that performance

The defensive playcalling and game planning was atrocious. The Bucs has them on their heels all game, and Allen made literally no adjustments. I can recall like 3 blitzes all game, same coverage scheme for most of the game. Line didn’t get much pressure, the best LBers weren’t even play (the guys that played so well for us down the stretch last year) and Crawley/Lattimore got exposed because of it. Lattimore got beat bad by Evans for that 1 TD, but that will happen every once in a while..

Bottom line is Allen has to pull his head out of his arse and the players need to play with a little more intensity

It was obvious that we were expecting a short passing game the way our corners were squatting on the in routes.

well lattimore looked slow as frick last sunday. i hope he just got fat and that works itself out over the season

davis isn't that good on the weakside historically and only really put it together in the middle late in his career. he may "just all of a sudden suck" now with the change in scheme/position (and this not being his final contract year, like last year)

okafor is coming off a serious injury, so he may suddenly suck

coleman hasn't been that good in a couple years, so he may suck now (not suddenly)

crawley played above his pay grade last year, so he may suddenly suck

i tried to warn the board in preseaso that our D could regress to shite. it literally did the same thing in year2 under rob ryan (and our D in his first year was a lot better than our D was in 2017)

I think new players at every level of the back 7, and, players from last year buying the hype and thinking they could skate by the Bucs were both factors.

Davis, Robinson, and Coleman haven't played with us before and it's not like the whole first team D had a ton of playing time together.

The Bucs (just like the Vikings last year) had an entire offseason to gameplan for Week 1. They came out with a plan to attack the defense they saw on film. Allen came out and followed that gameplan to a T, making no adjustments whatsoever

They looked slow, low energy and had a bad scheme from the DC.
