What would he need to do to be HoF worthy? another Super Bowl win?

Huh? Of course he is lol.

Even without another Super Bowl. He will be in the HOF

Literally the architect of an almost two decade span of top 5 offenses.

Tony Dungy is in with 1 ring and a 66% winning percentage. Sean has 1 ring and 64%.

If Payton goes 9-5 over his next 14 games, his overall career record will exactly match Dungy's.

And he doesn’t hate homosexuals like Dungy, so that’s a plus

He’s already HOF worthy. Is this a serious question?

But he doesn't have one thing going for him that Dungy did

I think we all know the difference between Dungy and Payton.

Two other coaches that should be in the Hall
Mike Holmgren who has won more games than Dungy, has a much better post season record (.542 vs .474) and went to 3 Super Bowls isn't in. Took Seattle to their first Super Bowl
Tom Flores won a Super Bowl as a player, assistant coach, and two as a Head Coach. 1st person of color to win a Super Bowl as a Head Coach, went 83-53(.610) and 8-3 in the postseason. Did suck in Seattle.

I find it odd and uncomfortable that “first person of color” is even in any statement when it comes to sports.

He's HoF worthy now.
With only one Super Bowl he's gonna have to wait awhile to get in, but with two, he'd be in within his first 3-4 ballots. More than two.. first ballot.

Agree with the points already brought up in this thread. In my mind he’s one of the best offensive minds ever in the NFL. I think it’s kind of biased though to say he’s already worthy if he retired today.
He’s 23rd all time on the wins list right now with 141 wins. Once he coaches another 10 years though he’ll have the longevity at that point and easily over 200 career wins which puts him near top 5 most winningest coach all time. He’s obviously a HoF shoe-in by the time he retires, which I don’t think is anytime soon.

I would say he is already. If he wins another Super Bowl, he’s a definite. Especially if it’s in NOLA.

Yes, but he could solidify it with another Super Bowl win.

Lazy people will make it black and white but the real difference is Dungy is basically a saint by the league and media. Payton is far from that at least in the eyes of the league. Not that he'll get the full Stabler treatment but they'll be people who hold Bountygate and the pills against him.

The top offensive mind of his generation, top 5 offenses almost exclusively for 15 years now, and a pretty memorable Super Bowl win.
Payton could retire today and he’d get in the HoF. Anything further is just moving up the timeline
