Katzenstein:

quote:

Sunday's game between the Saints and Ravens will feature the last active player from the 2001 draft (Drew Brees) and the 2003 draft (Terrell Suggs).

2001 draft:

-Michael Vick #1 pick

-Saints take Deuce at #23

-Drew first pick in the 2nd round

-Onome Ojo taken in 5th round

-First LSU player taken was OT Brandon Winey in 6th round, 1 of only 3 (QB Josh Booty rd 6, C Louis Williams rd 7)

-Saints couldn't draft for shite

ETA Gut wrenching 2003 draft:

-Saints take DT Johnathan Sullivan at #6

-Suggs taken 4 picks later

-Troy Polamalu #16

-Stinchcomb the only thing good from that draft

I love Deuce but can you imagine if we had drafted Brees at #23 instead? Did they look at him and say "i think Aaron Brooks is a better player..."

I think the feeling was we were pretty set at QB with Brooks and Blake. Ricky Williams had 1,000 yards (exactly) in 10 games with 8 td's in 2000, but maybe the writing was on the wall that he was going to flake out and/or they were wanting to rid the franchise of the Ditka blunder.

We can say that now but at the time, who could have foreseen that Drew would become the QB that he did. Brooks probably did look like the better player. Plus they had Deuce graded very highly and he fell to them. Drafting Deuce was far from the worst thing the Saints ever did on draft day.

Mike McCarthy and Brees? Good combo.

then Haslett's tenure limps on and we miss out on the other half of this historic combo in Sean Payton

Favorite Sullivan story is him getting kicked out the press area eating food an hour before Kickoff

Since they were so focused on a DT, I am more upset about Kevin Williams going a few picks after Sullivan.

Out of that whole run of DTs that year, he was the only one that lived up to his draft pick.

And, if I recall correctly, they traded TWO first round draft picks we had in the teens to move up to pick this fat, lazy, POS.

We last played the Ravens in 2014 Brees was 35 of 45 for 420 yards with three touchdowns, one interception. (we dint have all these young Play Makers and the number 1 Offense)
The running game dint exist in 2014 nor did we had Tasom Hill neither. Something to think about.
