I'm still in shock about yesterday

I typically over losses pretty quickly, as opposed to the days when this stuff could ruin the first part of the following week for me. And I'm not "upset" about the game, but I still can't fathom how the defense, after all they built towards last year, could lay that big of an egg. Absolutely NOBODY looked good....at all. Complete ineptitude. I have no words.

Saw a quote from Cam Jordan about how they wanted to put a spy on Fitzgerald, but they gameplanned him going to one side of the field or the other when he ran, not up the middle. I'd have to find it again to make sure I got the details right, but I was the blinking white guy meme.

".........you couldn't adjust for that? The entire game? Especially at the end when we needed a stop to get the ball back? YOU COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT BY THEN????????"

What the hell was going on yesterday? I just imagined when Payton sat down with his coaches, the first thing he said to Allen was "we're not going to do this shite again. You can't expect us to score 40+ points every game."

That was a 2012 defensive showing. After what we thought we were getting this year, you can't blame people for being in an extreme state of shock.

That was worse than 2012. Ryan Fitzpatrick just lit us up for 48 points. Ryan Fitzpatrick. Imagine what a good QB would have done yesterday.

I’m over it. If the Falcons or Panthers looked great I’d be more worried.

They’ll be better next week, 3-2 going into the bye week is an absolute must.

It really makes you wonder. We've been bitching and bitching about players for years. And somehow, guys keep leaving here and being better, and all our draft picks and acquisitions fail ... It just makes you wonder how much the defensive problem is really just Payton. Like don't get me wrong I love the guy and I think we will get over this game and have a good defense again but it's just mind blowing that this D just did this after what they did last year

I get that. But it was one game. We looked the same against Bradford in the opener last year. We played poorly on D, and Fitz played his arse off. I'm just saying that I'm more inclined to charge it to being more of an anomaly than anything. ...at least after just one game.

Last I checked Payton still was an offensive guru.

Im going to wait to see if we lose to Cleveland before hanging it up for the season. Offense did their part, the defense played with a fire last year that they didnt have yesterday. We'll see if that performance lights the fire

It’s because for the first time in a long time we had high expectations. Pretty much everyone felt like they would be a contender this year. Now I don’t know what to think. I can’t take another 7-9 season, not with how little time we have left with Drew. But it feels like 7-9 is definitely possible now. It sucks

Someone else pointed out that, yes, we lost the first two last year in fantastic fashion and turned it around, but lets not pretend that's the norm. Starts like this are more indicitave of our friend 7-9.

And I didn't say I was writing off the season. And I could chalk up an opening day loss to knocking the rust off and just not in sync. But yesterday was a different level of fail. Was a completely different defense.

The Defensive starters looked like shite in the preseason, have historically been poor, and as a team the Saints haven't done well to start the season for many years now.

All that said, I bought into the hype and expected the Saints to dominate.

Last years opener at least had multiple stops. The Bucs should’ve had 50 on this team yesterday if not for the missed field goal. It’s the worst defensive showing I’ve seen from the Saints, and that includes 2012

I thought we looked like we came out like we just needed to show up, and Tampa was fired up to play this game. As good as the offense looked, I don't think we played our best game on offense. It looked to me that the secondary had some miscues, but its the lack of pressure that was most disturbing to me.

Let’s not forget about the 2 costly fumbles, the TD that was called back, and the terrible roughing the passer calls.

But yeah, the defense was soft. They HAVE to fix that.

Fitz was damn near perfect, we have to be be perfect in games like that.

I'm just glad it happened now and not 10 weeks from now. Not that it is good

exactly

I couldn't understand this. How often we'd just rush 4 and give Fitz all the time in the world to pick apart our secondary.
