If you're Drew Brees, do you entertain offers in free agency?

Each day that ticks by is causing me to wonder why a deal with Brees hasn't been wrapped up yet. Loomis and his agent have to had comunicated what Brees is expecting. Language from Brees seems positive a deal will certainly get done...but what's the hold up?

You have a team like the Browns who could offer him something insane. Like a 1 year/$50 million insane and still have more cap room than us. Not saying they would, but they could theoretically pay Brees whatever he wanted and not even bat an eye.

You're Brees. You know your career maybe has 2-3 years left. You'll be young when you retire with a large family and while you have probably a very large amount of money in the bank, do you take the massive contract even if it means leaving?

You have the Super Bowl, the records, the accolades...do you take one last gigantic pay day?

Saints would have to do some serious contract offer insulting before i go that route.

Even though I may be biased, this Saints team has the most young talent on it probably ever. Drew has a Super Bowl and all the accolades but still when greatest qbs comes up his name is always around 4/5. Some even put Aaron Rodgers ahead of him.

I do not know him or his financials, but why would you leave a situation you know for the unknown. He knows the playbook better than the coach, has great connections with his RBs and WRs, the defense finally seems to be fixed. This is the perfect situation for him.

Given his contract situation, if he hits FA it very likely means we are moving on, so he'll have to entertain other offers.

But all signs are pointing to this getting done before then so the $12 mil doesn't accelerate.

There'll be no bidding war between us and other teams. We either resign him before FA or he is very likely gone (which is very unlikely).

So you think that at age 39, Brees is gonna go and play for another team, learn a completely new system, new players, new coaches while relocating his family on top of selling his property down here? This isn't Madden where guys are just up and boom on another team. They have lives, family, friends and businesses, etc down here to consider and pushing 40, Brees is smarter then that.

Lmao, Brees isn't going anywhere.

At this point legacy and not having to uproot his family suddenly have to be bigger concerns than money. I imagine at least. The guy is already worth probably a lot more than $100m. There has to be some diminishing returns there.

I'm almost willing to bet Drew's deal was already agreed on weeks ago. Think about it he's openly said he's coming back and New Orleans has said the same. As much as both sides want it either would give away leverage by being so open about him returning.

Implying Brees couldn't live in Jacksonville or Buffalo for 6 months of the year while his family stayed in NOLA....

Brees values his legendary status here. He isn’t trying to leave it. Especially now that the Saints have a promising young team.

If I'm Drew I will go with what I said. I will absolutely be a Saint next year.

I think with the new coaches, Thomas, Lattimore, Kamara, O line, Cam and all of the other balling players, it’s not much of a thought. When we started 0-2, it may have crossed his mind.

Honestly there would be very few things more devastating to stunt the potential of this team than for him to test FA and add an auto 18 million in dead weight to the team's Salary cap.

If I am Drew I have a figure in mind that I want but if I go to FA it is solely with intent to leave.

The damage it would do to his reputation and future earnings is not worth the extra millions of signing with a god awful team like the Browns to finish his career.

He doesn't have many years left in him.

Like I said before the beginning of the season, I think his decision completey depends on how this season played out.

Considering we should have been in the NFC championship game last season with a very young talented core to build around going forward, I think the only way he leaves is for another contender.

Had we gone 7-9 again I think the last few years making 150 mil with the Browns to cash in one last time probably wouldn't sound too bad.

Are they on the hook for only $12 mil? I thought it was $18 mil that was left.

I meant as far as sponsorships, radio/tv, ect. Closing out you career stinking it up with the Browns may not be the best way to finish a HOF career.

This isn't Manning to the Broncos.... or even Montana to the Chiefs for that matter.
