If Bridgewater is the Future
Then why just sign him to a one year deal? Why not 2-3 years at a decent price and possibly taking more cap hit when he is actually starting? This wasted more cap space this year and he can leave if he wants to next year.

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
Because 1) he had other suitors so we didn’t have all the leverage 2) We can do what you’re saying next offseason in a manner that best helps us offset the Brees hit.

You’ve got to be crazy if you think Teddy is going to bolt next year when he likely gets to be THE guy in the saints offense with a newly resigned kamara and mt13.

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
What suitors? Miami ? Who offered him less money for 2 years?

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
We have no idea what Miami offered. Bottom line is this is likely what our FO wants to do in terms of working the contracts during the transition. We probably had to pay him a bit more this year to ensure that.

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
It was widely reported that Miami offered him 2 years for 10 million total. He didn’t have much leverage. Nobody else needs a starting qb. Even if they went up on that offer it’s not real leverage.

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
You’re making my point. They paid a lot of money for him to back up for one year. At least get him for 2 years committed if you like him that much.

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
Why have him committed for next year when you’re going to have a big Brees dead money hit next year?

Why not be able to start fresh and work the contract in a way to accommodate the Brees hit?

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
Possibly reluctance on both sides? If you're Bridgewater it makes sense to keep your options, and negotiating leverage, open next offseason. You stand to get more money if Drew does retire and more starting QB slots open up in the league.

If you're the Saints perhaps Brees has yet to decide whether he'll play beyond next season or not. And maybe you think you stand a chance of getting a QB you like through the draft.

Drew won't get a new contract...one way or another this is Drew's last year with the Saints. I expect to see him try a big rental deal next year. Go to the bronco's.

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
This is my opinion.

Brees was the MVP after the Atlanta game. The New Orleans Saints will never move on from Drew Brees while he is playing at a high level.

Saints have option to re-sign either QB. Both are free agents after next season.

Teddy makes solid guaranteed money with the opportunity to inherit this great job...or to enter a possibly more QB needy market next offseason.

Getting the QB’s that Miami doesn’t want, usually turns out pretty good for us.

re: If Bridgewater is the Future
Maybe I just don’t understand the cap...but all this Brees’ last year talk is bizarre to me.

Obviously, the time will come. And if it does, of course we must move on.

But the thought of him being a great QB and the Saints letting him walk anywhere is nauseating. And I don’t believe that will ever happen.

Yes.

Who knows, Teddy might be the future, or in the next 2-3 years we may get our next Top 3 QB.

I like what the Saints are doing.

With Teddy, if Brees goes down for day 6 games, our season isn’t over.
