So he had a serious problem and went out of his way to address his mental and physical well-being?

I don't see that as a red flag, personally.

His upside is too high to pass on him with any of our picks, IMO.

That isn't his only red flag. At times, he didn't take football as seriously as he should have. He was too worried about the next party to attend. Jazz Ferguson was his running buddy but Jazz didn't produce on the field which is why he got the boot yet Key was allowed to remain on the team.

The reason for Key's mysterious absence last summer was due his father catching wind of his negative behavior on campus. His father came down from Georgia & pulled Key out of school to get his mind right (rehab & change of environment) before Key totally blew his football future. This is why he came back to LSU so out of shape. Football became an afterthought behind getting his life together. Has he managed to completely do so is the million dollar question.

I don't. He will have serious questions to answer when it comes to the interview portion of the combine. He had better chose his answers wisely. There will be several teams who will take him completely off their draft boards.

if he has a jawdropping combine at 250+ no one is going to care that a 20 year old partied too much

Teams will fall in love with his measurables like they always do with pass rushers.
QB"s and pass rushers always get drafted higher. He'll end up going top 15.

I mean if true good for them. If he legitimately worked on bettering himself I think that shows a good bit of awareness for a 20 year old star athlete.

Key and Kamara are apples to oranges..Key's effort is what is most questionable in regards to his potential, kinda like Nkemdiche from Ole Miss when he came out vs Kamara. Greg Hardy on the other hand was a beast when he was on the field, did well for a while in the pros and then spiraled down due to his mental issues. Key doesn't seem to understand or care for the process which bodes poorly for his ultimate results, but like others have said he is a young man so maybe he turns it around..but I wouldn't want to write that guaranteed check

That's false. The dude had rotator cuff surgery in June and was back on the football field vs MSU in September. That's fricking dedication.

Kamara

quote:

When Kamara eventually got back on the field, he knew that he was not playing for the rest of the season, so he loafed through drills. Saban created a punishment system called The Box, specifically for Kamara, which was four cones set up on the sideline where he would be sent to do push-ups, sit-ups and body weight squats for the duration of practice. He was suspended for the team’s game against LSU in November and again for the Sugar Bowl in January. By that point, Kamara had already decided he was transferring.

So he abruptly left school two days into his second semester, returned home to Atlanta, and quickly realized that he had no plan, no idea what he was doing. He ignored repeated calls from college coaches looking to recruit him. He had lost focus, lost track of his vision for the future. “Lost myself,” he says. Then, the low point: In February, Kamara took his mom’s car to do his laundry. He was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt, and the police officer discovered that Kamara had a suspended learner’s permit. He was handcuffed and arrested.

There was nothing wrong with his effort. Where do you dumb fricks get this?

There's a key difference with Kamara and Key

Kamara was mentally checked out after his injury, made stupid decisions, and had to hit rock bottom before he realized his life was going down the gutter if he kept it up. When he came back, he was completely dedicated to it and made most of every possibility he was given. Proved it for two years.

Key was also mentally checked out, made stupid decisions, and ontop of that has substance abuse problems before family realized it and helped him turn his life around. Issue is when he came back, he was out of shape and didn't seem as dedicated but still did well enough this year.

The difference is Kamara didn't have substance abuse issues but an attitude issue which he obviously matured and has continued to do so. Key on the other hand has a known substance issue and some attitude/immaturity issues that he probably did grow up from. The issue is the substance abuse issue, the NFL is a free world for athletes with millions of dollars to do anything you want. Hell, look at Foster shortly after the season concluded. What happened in the past few years with players like Gregory, Tunsil, Nkemdiche, etc?

That's concerning to say the least, that's just facts. He's a hell of a player, but if he needs his parents to force him to sit down and keep focus than thats a problem. What if they can't sit him down and keep an eye on him? He could very well end up like Aldon Smith or Randy Gregory.

This is absolute bullshite. He doesn’t have any work ethic issues. Key works hard at his craft not only in the gym and at practicing but he works with a pass rush specialist on his own time as well.

He got addicted to pain pills after an injury and I believe a minor surgery.. it wasn’t recreational, just the reality many normal people have had to deal with as well.

Don’t kid yourself about the his talent... if he was a junior last year he’d have been the #1 pick. He has extremely advanced pass rush moves and plays the run well also. If his issues are sorted out, he’d be a huge steal at 27 and would help our D immensely

Don’t compare Key to this fricking psycho. Having a problem with weed or pills is nowhere near the level of what Hardy did to women. POS should be in jail.
