Cooks?? Vaccaro? Peat? Stephone Anthony??? c'mon man....Brees was putting up yuge (albeit meaningless) numbers and had a colossally bad defense.

I blame Payton for Drew Brees audibling and throwing it at Michael Thomas's feet 2 plays before the 2018 no call.
I blame Payton for costing us the game last year with a key fumble forced by Danielle Hunter.

T-decline was real with Brew Drees starting in 2018. The year before he rallyed the team to a win only to have a rookie safety act like a rookie safety. 2014-2016 are a travesty.

Jairus Byrd was a 3x Pro Bowler before coming to the Saints. I don’t think anyone thought he’d be as bad as he turned out.

I think the wasted years of dogshit defenses are on him. It certainly costed us at least one more Super Bowl.

bruh. i am talking about 2014-2016. those three seasons. Drew was in his prime and we got rob "hungry hippo" ryan and CJ Spiller and Coby Fleener. the draft was largely unproductive save for a few players. yeah yeah bounty gate. however the writing was on the wall in 2013 that the glory years of 2009-2011 were ending.
He had Drew and he was living on Ambush and was king of NO. screw defense. 2017 he finally got it together but drew was trending down.

Who is limiting this conversation to the last 4 years?
Gary Gibbs, Spags, and Ryan are on CSP. Even most of GWs tenure was pretty bad. The lack of drafting on defense for years is on CSP. Keeping guys like Joe Vitt. Greg McMahon, and Bill Johnson around forever is on CSP.
It cannot even be argued that he ignored many of the issues on defense until he brought guys like Dennis Allen and Mike Nolan in. It became a cliché in the NFL that if the Saints could only produce and average defense, they'd win Super Bowls.

People always fail to mention that play when he threw it at Thomas' feet. He would have walked in the endzone. That always struck me as odd. Strange that it happened at the time it did and never again.
