How would draft strategy change if focused on long term
I’d love to hear what you guys would want to be focused on if we draft
A) to make a run next year or B) long term depth and quality of the team

Interested to know the different positions you guys would want to focus on or how you’d want to handle potential trades up or back

The Saints do not have many open roster spots. So the idea of accumulating a large quantity of picks this year doesn't make sense if you have to cut half of them ala 2018.

Identify your guys and go get them.

I think there’s a large misconception that the saints draft for anything other than the future.

Yeah outside of some really athletic linebacker who would be flying around the field, or a burner at WR who teams have to account for being able to make long gains out of short passes we’re pretty much rolling with what we have. Not sure where the major impact would come from in the near term outside of drafting a guy that would provide really quality depth on OL or DL in case we had some injuries.

With the current depth and maybe Brees last year, think they are looking more for players that can contribute now, not three years down the road. One step short of an all-in strategy, but pretty close.

I think this year is different.

The way the draft is going a premium will be placed on safe pics. There wasn't the usual time to look for the nuggets that are a bit of a crap shoot as in past years.
So short or long term is about equal.

I’d argue a guy like Clyde Edwards-Helaire would make us a lot better. It would be like having prime Sproles AND Kamara but let’s be honest, Payton would never run them enough to justify it. We don’t even use Murray enough. Anyway, outside of the two you said, which is spot on, I’d argue a badass RG but we aren’t finding that in the draft

WR and LB are the only ways we can get better in the draft.
