Still haven’t gotten an explanation on that one

NFL just praying that kind of goes away and doesn’t get any press

They said that because it’s a punt, the receiver is not a receiver so PI rules do not apply

Idk. I understand it not being dpi being that it was a punting situation but it's still a penalty to hold the gunner.

Yes but holding is still in play. Flags are thrown all the time for holding against the gunner.

Holding =\= DPI

They could have and should have called holding. But they didn't and a no-call of holding is not reviewable.

Technically it was holding, but the reality is that hand fighting and that kind of contact occurs on every punt play and never gets called.

He didn’t ask why PI wasn’t called...

That was more than hand fighting. The 49ers player had Smith by the shoulder pad.

and never gets called.

Was still a stupid play call by CSP.

Fake punt on 4th and 13 or something like that.

The 49er grabbed him by the jersey and drove him out of bounds

It was not pass interference but no question it was holding

They blew it

yes but it wasnt called and you cant challenge and review holding

its infuriating but i look and point to payton there to blame on that. he drew up a play using a man who was going to be hand checking the whole way down field and yet he didnt realize 9 out of 10 times the guy will be getting mugged with no penalty and no chance to catch the ball.

taysom should have taken off and run since we only needed a few yards and he most likely would have gotten the first down but payton was hoping to get a penalty on a guy that was immune from getting a flag thrown in that spot

Why is it when it's something that would benefit the Saints it's -

quote:

Technically it was holding, but... occurs on every punt play and never gets called.

But when it's something that hurts the Saints, it's -

quote:

bUt MUH unNEceSsarY rOuGHnEsS aGaInsT CGJ oN Juszczyk WuZ tEcHnICallY coRreCt sO StoP CrYiNg

The problem is an inordinate amount of close calls and judgment calls always go against the Saints and never the opponent. There are stats that bear this out that were posted last week on Saints talk.

You're not allowed to call penalties on a fake punt. Anything goes. That's what the NFL said.

Ultimately, calling the deep ball outside there is bad game planning by the nature of the rules.

Not only that miss but in the first half on a third down play in SF territory their LT false started

The PFM on Gardner Johnson was such Bulls hit. I mean, the FB could still get up....the guy is a football player

...and then they DO call penalty against Chauncy for what was nothing more than a "football play" no helmet to helmet

Smith almost made a Prothro catch, which when a play call relies on that is stupid.

I think even if holding was called it would have been a 10 yard penalty to back the 49ers up. Not a 1st down for the Saints.
