Inside scoop here from a prominent New Orleanian and lifelong "catlick" like Mr. Benson:

Tom Benson was/is livid about the anthem protests and even disapproves of the current kneeling by the team before the anthem. A person close to Tom and Gayle says that Tom agrees wholeheartedly with Jerry Jones in regards to not rewarding Goodell with a new deal and the protest in general but obviously in his condition he can't really do much other than back by vote when the time comes.

Tom has mentioned the serenity prayer specifically, saying that he doesn't have the power to change this - maybe not even if he were 10 or 20 years younger, so he's going to sit back and enjoy what could be his last run at a Super Bowl and try to ignore the stuff from the players that he doesn't agree with.

Tom Benson, patriot, serviceman, philanthropist, and hero of New Orleans wants his players to STAND and HONOR the sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women.

Players kneeling have nothing to do with me. I’m active duty and not a single person in my unit is dishonored by players kneeling.

Paul Tagliabue is the hero of New Orleans. Benson wanted nothing more than to move this team and cripple the city after Katrina. Benson can get fricked.

Benson is a douchebag who probably wouldn’t care if he didn’t think it could affect his pockets.

I was active duty for 5 years and I think the players are idiots for their anthem protest. How about protesting black on black crime or protest the thousands of kids growing up without fathers. If they can get the fathers to be in their kids lives you solve the black on black crime to an extent. Stop blaming everyone else and take responsibility for what the real problems are.

This is what Jim Brown has to say:

After a dozen Cleveland Browns players knelt in protest during the National Anthem at last Monday’s NFL preseason game, Jim Brown – the team’s legendary Hall-of-Famer – said he’d never disrespect his country’s flag. At yesterday’s game, every Browns player stood at attention during the Anthem.

In their game on August 21, 12 Browns players reportedly chose to take a knee in protest, despite the National Football League franchise’s official statement of respect for the United States and its flag.

Later that week, in an interview, Jim Brown said that players should keep their profession and their activism separate. Football players are paid well, and they should respect their country when they are on-camera or in a game, representing their employer, Brown said:

“If you’re a football player, play football. If you’re gonna be a real activist, use your money, use your notoriety.”
Brown said that he, personally, would never disrespect his country’s flag and anthem:

"I’m an American. I don't desecrate my flag and my national anthem. I'm not gonna do anything against the flag and national anthem. I'm going to work within those situations. But this is my country, and I'll work out the problems, but I'll do it in an intelligent manner."
The Browns anti-anthem antics last week angered fans – and even prompted a local veterans’ facility to begin boycotting the team’s games. As MRCTV.org reports:

“A local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post in Strongville, Ohio now says it’s refusing to air Browns games on weekends, normally a well-attended gathering for their sports fans, saying they love their flag more than their football team.”
The sign in the front yard of VFW Post 3345 proudly declares:

“We Like Our Browns – We Love Our Flag More. Your Games Will No Longer Be Shown Here. God Bless America!”

Nonsense - Benson saved the Saints twice, the Dome once, and now the Pellies once.

We should replace the unfortunately dismantled Lee Circle with Benson Circle
