It was reported that he went to them and asked for sometime away from the game. It was not reported what exactly it was but he asked for time away. The Pats are hoping to bring him back after he gets his life in order.

Showing up on the first day of work and asking for time off to get your life in order...I feel bad for the guy because I'm sure it's personal demons holding him back, but getting re-hired after that is gonna be hard
