How is it cope? They both happened. They are both bad, it's just 2011 was our best team to ever field, imo. If we win, we play the Giants at home in NFC championship game and Patriots were not as strong that year, definitely compared to this year. We blew the Giants out earlier that year.

ETA: If anything, that niners game, getting through that, has made this one less unbearable.

But the loss by itself is not even close. Anything else is cope. Agreed?

Captain Hindsight but we would’ve gotten the Giants in the Dome in ‘12 compared to traveling to Philly vs another top 5 defense but in high teen/low twenty temps

Because in that San Fran game we overcame 5 turnovers and a loss of a huge player and we had a better offense and a better season and could've had the NFC Championship game in the Dome. The 2011 Saints offense is one of the best ever in NFL history. Plus it was just 2 years after the Superbowl when we were still amped up about that win and it was after that crushing Seahawks loss. Plus it was 6 seasons into Payton's tenure and the defense was aging after the Superbowl, etc......

That game loss was so so so much worse.

This game we only had 2 turnovers, a very rocky season and would've had another outdoor away playoff game. Also, this season was alot of fun, our defense is young and looks great, and we finally made it back to the playoffs after two bad rebuilding seasons.

In my mind it was worse because the 11 team was a better Saints team, maybe THE best Saints team ever.

They win that niner game, they win the Superbowl.

This Minny game is second on the list.

That we would have won handedly. There is nothing on the eagles offense that remotely mirrors Diggs plus thielen and keenum is leagues ahead of foles

Wasn't much different. Niners did have like a little over a minute when they got the ball back. But they were still around their own 30 something and we were up a FG, with maybe 40 seconds left after a few plays. GW decides to go all out blitz and Harper can't keep up with Davis.

Realistically we probably would not beat the Pats in the SB this year. Don't get me wrong I would have loved a chance to.

This was a freak play, boneheaded miss, whatever in a game where it looked like initially we were going to get blown out.

In the SF game, we knew full well they were going to Vernon Davis and still couldn't stop it. IMO that's worse.

It was completely different. The niners scores on a drive. The Vikings scored on a 62 yard prayer that will go down as the worst most embarrassing play in saints history

I'd have felt good about playing the Eagles, but not near as good as playing the Giants in 2012. Eagles still have a tough D, not sure how well Brees does in that outside dome, their D this year is better than their D in 2013, just my opinion. Foles is hit and miss, depends on which Foles would have shown up.

The way we lost? Yea probably worse

The loss itself was worse in 2011 given the ability of that team and how the next round was set up

Beastmode and Carney's missed extra point are worse as far as embarrassing. The niners hit Davis on a huge play that put them in position for a TD, pretty sure they didn't even have any timeouts, we had been playing good D all game. Last night our D was gassed in the first half.

The play by MW sucked, this game is easily 2nd worst of all losses.

ETA: I'll say last nights was worse than Carney's miss.

As others have said, it's because the 11 team was probably our best team. This year, I actually expected to lose to the Vikings. I would have been fine if the score just finished 17-0. I would have been proud of the Saints season. It was a very successful, unexpected season. Most didn't think the Saints would be good this year, especially after 0-2. Obviously, I am more broken up about the loss than expected because of how it ended.

In 11, the Saints were coming off their 3rd straight double digit win season. They had also won 8 straight going into the game. Expectations were sky high. Also, for all the LSU Saints fans, it was less than a week after 1/9/12. So, that compounded the sorrow.

That 2011 team was still arguably our best team ever. I really doubt this team would’ve beaten the Pats but that team very well could have.
