I apologize in advance to the intelligent people who have to suffer through my question, but what is the feasability of a HUGE lawsuit? The saints as an organization make big time moves to position themselves this year. That is a risk the saints take but it assumes
Reasonably fair refereeing of games, among other things. You could argue that this referee crew mistake is close to priceless impact on the saints organization. I dont think im being dramatic. Of course there are smaller sums such as lost bonuses that also factor in.

So for the legal minds, what gives? What does it take to get change?

I dont see a lawsuit to overturn result but if I was a player I would be filing for missed bonus money which is huge.

This was one of the first things that came to mind. The players would each have made a $250k bonus and that missed call all but gauranteed the players a shot at that bonus money. I think the the NFL is and should be responsible for the malpractice on the part of the refs

Look, I know you want an explanation. I could put together the legal reasoning, but this is just so far off base that it isn't worth the time. It would be difficult to argue because it is so nonsensical that it hasn't been really been examined. It's not a thing.

You are in another universe and you should forget this thought.

The general idea of a lawsuit is to make the injured party whole. There’s no real way to do that here. You can’t measure this in real value.

How the hell are the refs going to be held accountable?

I would imagine the players could go after the individual ref in a civil suit. Damages are that the refs took away opportunity for players to play in Super Bowl and to possibly collect $250k in bonuses

You know, everybody acts like it's Preposterous to file a lawsuit against the NFL for cheating but I'll repost something I posted in another topic...

quote:

It's already been done in a court case back in the day where a ticket holder brought suit against the NFL for fixing competition which is against most state laws passed back in the day to combat impropriety in boxing.

The NFL's defense?

Ready for this?

They claimed they weren’t a sports competition but instead, an entertainment business.

You know, like WWF wrestling
