Fans are afraid of moving on from Brees because it shows time is moving forward

Just going deeper than the normal "let's keep Brees forever because he won us a Super Bowl" sentiment and looking at it from a perspective that some are afraid to acknowledge that time is not only passing, but rushing by.

Brees signed with us in 2006. He is in his 12th season with the Saints.

Amazing how quickly 11 years can fly past you.

I think the end of Brees and Payton scares a lot of people in admitting that time is constantly moving, and in retrospect, moves within the blink of an eye.

Think about how old you were and where you were in life 11 years ago. I bet it doesn't feel that far away.

Doesn't scare me. I appreciate everything he's down for this franchise but time to let him go elsewhere and start to attempt a rebuild.

I don't want to move on from drew brees because I don't feel like bouncing from mediocre QB to mediocre QB for a long period of time.. people take him for granted, just like lsu fans took fournette for granted.. QBs like Brees are rare and IMO people who want him gone are delusional... yes he's getting old and yes his time with the saints is nearing an end, but he still has a lot to offer.. more than most QBs in the league, even now

Brees isn't your average (better than average) quarterback he can still do things with the football as far as accuracy as well as any quarterback in the league today

I can see that point of view, I think it's because of ou history and lackluster front office more than anything. We've had multiple of our best seasons under this Brees/Payton regime, so it's hard to move on from that to the unknown.

Personally, I take a look around the league and see there aren't very many good QBs out there. Most of the good ones have been around for years as well sans Derek Carr. You have no shot in today's league without a good QB period, and it is the single hardest position to predict success. That coupled with the lack of ability in the front office to draft/sign serviceable players tells me we have very little chance of lucking into a franchise QB again. So once Brees/Payton leave, hope is all but gone and the one thing even keeping us competitive is gone. We will suck for an undetermined amount of time, maybe many many years. That's why I fear Brees leaving.

no one disputes this, but brees is out of here next year or retiring, get used to that idea.

why in the world would you ever think or expect brees to stay here with this pathetic coaching staff and the dumptster fire of srcub players they surround him with.

the man would have to be stupid as all hell to stay here and brees is NOT that stupid.

he will go to a team he believes can go to the super bowl next year or he will retire, those are the only two ways he is thinking about his future.

I am fine either way, but I would like him to break all of the QB records as a Saint. For that reason, and that reason only, I am fine with he and Payton staying another year, break the records, and move on.

I am a Saints fan, so dealing with crushing losses is in my blood. We will never see the likes of either of them again, so I am fine riding it out.

maybe for some, for me, I look around the league and I see how many teams have trouble finding a franchise QB and I think that once Brees leaves, we will struggle for a very long time. I know it has to happen eventually, but as long as he wants to give it a go here I'm happy to have him. Took 40 years to find a guy like Brees, could easily take that long again. Transitioning from Favre to Rodgers or Manning to Luck is by FAR the exception, not the rule.

I'm ready to move forward without him. We could sign 3 or 4 good players with his salary.

We don't have a good roster outside of Brees. Let him walk, that "25mil" gets you 3 above average players at best.

You'll end up becoming the Jacksonville, Houston, LA Rams of the league.

Elite defensive talent
decent offensive talent
no QB.

It has to happen at some point. Why not go ahead and do it. Y'all aren't going to magically go from the bottom tier of the league to super bowl contenders I mean look at the last 4 years. That was your chance to rebuild with Drew and the Saints have been the definition of stagnant. I would want to move on if I was a saints fan and just hope we luck into a good qb. It's been shown all you need is one shitty season to get a good QB transition (Colts, Falcons) and while that's more rare than the alternative what other option is there.

It's the same dumbing down mentality fans have about CSP.
It makes me sick.

And that's being generous, without Brees this team realistically might go 0-16 this year.
