instead of missing him completely (and taking out the Saint defender that would have likely tackled Diggs inbounds), there’s a good chance Diggs gets out of bounds with at least a second left since he was a yard from the sideline at the 33 yard line, and caught it at the 4 second mark. Then they rush the field goal team on and probably make it for the same result.

So be it. I’d rather lose that way

I’ve never seen a bigger choke than that in my life as time expired. I’d rarher had they kicked a FG

I'd rather lose by forcing them to make a decent field goal than some J.V. bullshite.

Cut him.

Not nearly as embarrassing to lose to a rushed FG attempt

You are the only fool who thinks that. Literally everyone else sees clearly Diggs 5 yards in the air coming down and williams had clear ability to tackle him. He had zero chance to get out of bounds unless williams isn't there.

Oh, and he wasnt.

bullshite. He takes him out in bounds and they can't even get up to spike the ball. Game over.

I don’t know. More than likely, if he plays it right, he gets there as Diggs makes the catch, then he tackles him immediately, not allowing Diggs to escape out of bounds. Game over. Even if Diggs was to have successfully fought his way out, and IF there was enough time... I’d rather the game end of the FG than that. Depressing way to lose a game that was for the most part, won. Oh well. Next year, right?

agreed

i didnt see the play but saw a picture just as he was catching the ball and i dont see why a "whiff" missed tackle even matters that much there?

the receiver is more then close enough to the sideline when he makes the catch, so that anything short of an immediate lights out drop him where he stands take down tackle, the receiver can make it out of bounds with a step and lean to the sidelines and have a few seconds left for a field goal to win it.

marcus williams is the reason they were in the playoffs to begin with and a major reason the saints even had the lead at the end to begin with so its not all on him even though that was a real stupid bone head rookie mistake on that tackle. this game was lost in the first half plus really bad coaching decisions all through the game.

Look at the still shot. Our defensive formation was horrific

Williams isn't even in this still picture yet. Somehow, we had a man passed the field goal range that was unguarded completely

Meanwhile, we have two men doing nothing in the middle of the field

When he comes down he almost stepped out of bounds before running to the score. And not everyone is convinced there’s no way he can’t get out of bounds with time left on the clock.

If he makes the tackle and Diggs gets out of bounds for a last second field goal that is at least forgivable. Make the tackle regardless, and try to keep him inbounds at all costs. A professional football player, even a rookie should know this. He put his head down and dove and completely missed that is just inexcusable.
