Been wanting him here foe the last three years.
Guy can still get to the qb and like everyone said he can show the young guys his moves and preparation.
Was so pissed when Atlanta signed him especially knowing we needed pass rushing help.
I never understood why we didn't even bring him in for a workout the last few years

I'd get it if we go after him, but Kikaha has 3 sacks this season as a rotational player in 7 games. Muhammad looked awesome in the preseason and Hendrickson has played well enough, both inside and outside. I get that we look like a SB caliber team so you have to go with whatever players you think give you the best chance, but I kind of want to go with the youngins that have helped the defense make a big jump.
Freeney is a future HoFer, but do we know that he's a big upgrade over Kikaha right now? And it may not matter as the waiver order is based on record after week 3. That means ~25 teams will have to pass on him for us to pick him up. If that happens, then maybe he's super one dimensional and he doesn't really provide much more than Kikahah, a player that could have a future with us if he shows something after Okafor's injury.

Are you sure he's subject to waivers?
We should have enough room to bring him in, and I wouldn't mind doing it just for Atlanta twice down the stretch
Edit: vets have to go through waivers after trade deadline

He didn’t play college ball at LSU, so no thanks.

Who would we cut to make space?

Harris. Don't care, pick one. Hell cut both.
Doesn't even need to be done to sign Freeny. Do it just because.

Datone Jones was released by the 49ers yesterday

He could be a situational pass rusher to lessen the burden of losing Okafor for the year.
If the Saints can afford it, why not.

Has anyone found any links explaining why DF was cut? It just seems very odd.

Wasn’t Okafor put on IR?
Yep. We're at a full 53 right now though.
Bighill was cut & Okafor placed on IR. We signed Sterling Moore & Dexter McDougle at CB.
They must value DeVante Harris on special teams, b/c I assumed he would be cut by now. We actually have 7 CB's on the roster right now. I'm pretty sure Hardee stays due to his special teams. After a couple weeks (or whenever Lattimore can play)...the coaches probably decide which CB's they'll keep out of Harris, Moore, & McDougle.

I doubt we add anyone at DE to replace Okafor. If anything...we might add another DT due to Onyemata potentially getting playing time at DE. Muhammad might also be active on gamedays now.
I seriously think we can get the job done with Hendrickson (he might actually be able to play the run & rush the passer...at least I hope he can), Kikaha, Muhammad, & maybe Onyemata against the run. Only way I can see us adding another DE is if these 4 guys can't get it done. I'm actually much more worried about depth at CB & LB.
Hopefully either Sterling Moore or Dexter McDougle can be the legit #4 CB that we're looking for. If they aren't...I assume we keep bringing in guys until we find what we're looking for. DeVante Harris & Hardee definitely aren't the answer.
We still need to find a #4 LB as well. Bighill got cut, & Mauti basically showed us why he isn't that guy against the Redskins. I had high hopes for Gerald Hodges, but he hasn't taken a single snap at LB yet (we might as well cut Hodges if the coaches don't think he can provide depth at LB, b/c Mauti is better on special teams). I wish the coaches would start the process of finding this guy, b/c an injury (at LB) in the postseason will be a huge problem in certain scenarios (like the scenario against the Redskins) . Thankfully they have almost 2 months to find someone, b/c I highly doubt this problem stops us from making the playoffs.

What about Cassius Marsh? Isn't he a hybird OLB/DE type? Obviously not a huge name but has experience in two great defenses and the options are limited.

He's plays mostly on the D-Line. If he did play LB...I would assume it would be as a 3-4 OLB. That's usually how it is with those DE/LB tweener guys. Just like Kikaha...he would probably be a DE in our defense.
He might be able to stop the run in our defense as a LB, but I assume he would get exposed in pass coverage. That's just my guess though.

49ers just claimed Cassius Marsh off waivers.
Also, the Chiefs just signed Derrelle Revis to a 2 year deal.
I know there are some huge red flags, but LB Rey Maualuga is a free agent after being cut by the Dolphins a few days ago. There really isn't much available at the LB position.
This list is about a month old, but lists the 4-3 OLB & 4-3 ILB that are available. It's a pretty pathetic list... more than halfway down the page. Some guys on here that we've already worked out...Jonathan Freeny, Sio Moore, Audie Cole, & Shayne Skov (I think he's on our PS).
Based on how horrible the current options are...we might have to just hope someone cuts a legit LB & use a waiver claim on him.
