sure, i bet drew brees and MT would get you some draft picks

but what good are draft picks when you create a huge hole by trading a good player to get them?

no, we dont have any players "we can afford to sell off" just to get more draft picks.

we "seem" to be pretty solid with the FA moves they made so i see no glaring needs that should make them want to act desperate and do something foolish like get rid of a good player and then those draft picks turn out to be busts as 70% of them are

Andrus Peat and a 4th rounder to move into 1st round. Mike Detillier has said Saints do have players in mind they want to trade into 1st round for

And then who plays guard and left tackle?

And we don't have a 4th rounder.

If you do that it'd HAVE to be for an OT or OG. I'm not opposed to that idea because of the number of guys will have to start paying over the next two offseasons (2020 and 2021).

We may not be able to keep everyone, so trading one or two may be the way to go.

But the problem with this is if you miss on the offensive lineman in the draft, you may be wasting potentially Brees' final year. We already will have a new center. You're playing Tom or Clapp at guard or scrambling to find an aging so so vet.

You also lose the versatility Peat brings for when Armstead inevitably gets hurt.

In theory trading Peat sounds nice, but I think in practice it has too many ways it can backfire to be worth it.

Peat is more valuable to this team than Armstead

Maybe a 4th year in a row of Armstead getting hurt for half the games will open some of your eyes

Armstead is an All NFL caliber player when he's healthy but he's never healthy. I'd be okay with dealing him if someone would bite .. it would have to be for a replacement though. I don't see his value getting us anywhere near drafting Jawaan Taylor or Jonah Williams.. those are prob the two highest graded tackles in the draft.

Pick one so you can hilariously spam the board about it for the next two years.

So "hehehehe cut Ted Ginn" all season is a solid contribution?

It honestly depends on compensation, a 2nd? I'll pass.

He's gonna be healtht for half the year, which is half the year he's elite and it helps us win games and keeps brees upright.

It's a smarter idea to shoot for a OG/OT in this draft anyway to prepare for that inevitable day when armstead gets hurt. Compared to trading him off and using a rookie for a full season.

i wanted to trade him for something before the season. He's aging and didn't have a good offseason. It was never a hehehehe cut ted ginn after he got hurt, i knew we were stuck with him.

Good points. I would be fine if we stayed put in this draft and went best OL or best WR available with our 2nd. Another really solid o lineman would be more useful than another wr IMO.

It's crazy to say that no one would trade for Armstead, especially when you add the part about money.
The saints would eat some of that money in a trade.

Can't believe someone actually thinks Armstead wouldn't get traded for

Ya I dont see the Saints dealing him at his current value

the thing is, anyone looking for an OT is just going to draft a Taylor, a WIlliams, a Dillard or a Risner. They aren't going to blow a high pick in the top 40 on an oft injured, high priced Armstead when they can get a starter at OT from day 1 on a rookie wage.

Armstead's dead cap is almost hit is $18 mil in 2019, but it'll drop down to $6 mil in 2020. Another year hurt and he loses more trade value, but would become a cut candidate if no one else would take that contract at ~$15 mil per on the cap. This season will dictate his future in NO

Regardless an OG or OT is almost imperative in the draft or in FA. A guard who allows you to slide Peat or a RT who allows you to slide Ram

Yeah his situation is tricky. I hope he shocks us all and has an injury free pro bowl caliber season. It's possible I guess.

Just saw another mock with us taking S- Chauncey Gardner out of Fla. Seems like he'd be a solid addition to the secondary. I remember him a little against LSU. He graded out pretty high.
