I believe a key missing component for the offense to excel to a higher level is a more viable threat at TE. I'm ready to write off Fleener as soon as cap affordable.
He had a rep for being soft before coming here and he has done nothing to dispel that. Am I correct that we could cut Fleener for a net $1.6million cap hit? Total dead cap money ($9.6mil) minus 2018 cap savings ($8mil)

Fleener contract details

Oddly, 3 TEs that have worked with Brees will be free agents next year-

Jimmy Graham, bridges burnt but never say never in the NFL
Ben Watson, still playing at 36
Antonio Gates,37 expected to retire

More UFA TEs here... Who ya got?

Eifert, if healthy, would DOMINATE in this offense.

I need to check contracts but isn't Jimmy AND Kam Chancellors contract up?

I think the Seahawks will have to make a choice on one or the other.

edit: Looks like Kam signed a three-year extension. So I believe the Seahawks can and will resign Jimmy.

I really like the kid from Wisconsin. But in the end just get one that played some B-ball

Nobody worth it in free agency.

Would rather draft a rookie.

quote:

Dallas Goedert, TE, South Dakota State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 260.
Projected 40 Time: 4.73.
Projected Round (2018): 2-4.
12/2/17: Goedert has been a dangerous receiving threat the past two seasons for South Dakota State. The senior has 60 receptions for 966 yards and five touchdowns in 2017. He put up even better production as a junior with 92 receptions for 1,293 yards and 11 touchdowns. Goedert has good size and athletic ability. He could help himself with a big week at the Senior Bowl.

Eifert is never healthy.

But, that may be a way to get him for a reasonable contract.

Trey Burton from the Eagles. Set to be an unrestricted free agent in 2018.

Need a bridge-gap TE IMHO, a veteran that can make a difference.

Per OTC,
Fleener has a 8mil cap hit, cutting him saves us 3.2mil.

The guy I think we should target: Austin Seferian-Jenkins

What htran posted are the correct numbers, and more can be saved if labeled a June 1st cut (another $3.2 mil, but it would go on 2019's cap), saving a total of $6.4 mil come June 1st.

I see where you went astray though. You added each years' dead money hit. What each year actually shows is the dead money if they are cut that year. So if cut next year his dead money hit is $4.8 mil. If designated as a June 1st cut the dead money is $1.6 mil in 2018 and $3.2 mil in 2019.

Based on his current production rate and declining snap count I think he'll be asked to take a sizeable pay cut (around the amount they'd save) or they'll just cut him.

I really, really want Jimmy to come back. He was on track to be a hall of fame lock with the numbers he was putting up here.

Him, Thomas, Ingram, and Kamara would be insane. Add I'm potentially keeping Ginn and if Snead ever gets back to himself that's just icing.

I think if he is still available in the mid rounds, Andrews from Oklahoma is a big body with great hands.

no way in hell

that is about the worst idea ever, and fleener right now is doing a much better job then a washed up JG would do for us coming back here

they need to replace fleener with a very good TE and that rules out JG

thanks for the clarity bone

I like Burton a lot but he's quickly becoming one of the worst kept secrets in Philly. Gon get paid

Are most in agreement that TE presence/production is the weak link on the offense currently?

Billy miller and Dave Thomas look like all pros compared to the shite we have now at TE.

noticed Cameron Brate will be RFA. Bucs are invested in Howard. Prolly wouldn't be a bank breaker. I think his numbers could explode under Payton. They were interested, snagged him in 2015 for the PS in 2015. The Bucs realized their screw up and took him back to the regular roster after 6 days in NOLA.
