He was an outstanding QB and led the Houston Oilers to championships in the early days of the AFL prior to the leagues merging. Billy Cannon was the star running back until injuries took its toll and he was traded to Oakland. .
The team also featured Louisiana natives Charlie Hennigan, a All pro receiver from N W State and miniature bowling ball running back Charlie Tolar also from N W
State. They wer followed by RB Hoyle Granger from Oberlin who played at Miss. State. Lot of LA flavor on the early Oilers.
