Could Drew Brees still be playing when he's 64?

Imagine it's 2043. Brees is considering retirement, but he may still have a few good seasons in him. After all, the game does not require the mobility it once did. In 2043, NFL football is played via Xbox by opposing teams seated on the line of scrimmage in reclining chairs.

When I get older losing my hair many years from now. Will you still be sending me a Valentine, birthday greetings, bottle of wine? If I'd been out til quarter to 3, would you lock the door? Will you still need me, will you still feed me, When I'm 64?

Drew Brees could be 64 and I’d still take him over 7-8 current starters in the league.

No one lives forever, no one. But with advances in modern science and my high level income, it's not crazy to think I can live to be 245, maybe 300. Heck, I just read in the newspaper that they put a pig heart in some guy from Russia. Do you know what that means?

Mark Bowden, the guy who wrote BLACKHAWK DOWN, wrote a great book about the 1958 Colts/Giants championship game called THE BEST GAME EVER that is well worth your time. One of my favorite details is that a lot of these guys back in those days were contractually prohibited from exercising because it was thought that there was not enough upside to offset the risk of injury. They were also encouraged to eat like shite and drink a lot of beer because weight was as important to the game in those days as athleticism.
