Agreed, pay for a can't miss corner in FA and draft guys who can get to the QB

This mentality bothers me a little bit. We've had a horrible pass D for too long.

A lot of it is pass rush, yes. But the other guys are question marks. Breaux is the only guy that has played at a HIGH level for a substantial period of time...and that was one season. Can't rely on anything/anyone else.

Pass rusher is essential, but so is CB. The team agrees, thank god...see attempts at Norman and Haden.

We'll go get one of the top guys this offseason. Book it.

Bouye/Claiborne/Gilmore etc.

I agree. But improve our pass rush and you will see the pass defense improve greatly.

I would still like to see a FA splash signing at CB though.

Right, we need another starter to play opposite of Breaux, but I think we'll rely on the rest of those guys for corners 3-5 with Vaccaro also playing slot coverage

I agree CB is not an area of main concern on this team Pass Rush is.

A lot of young corners had to play for the Saints this year due to injury. They made some plays and struggled at times but the got valuable experience. The Saints could have Dion Sanders back there in the secondary in his prime, and with no pass rush the Saints would still be no better next year than they were this and last year.

Next to a pass rusher I believe linebacker is the Saints next biggest need. We need a field general in the middle of the LB corps who can stop the run and cover RB out of back field.

I just like the potential of the current group when healthy. If there's a FA they love, fine, but I don't see the point in bringing in a rookie unless he's just elite in their minds.

I think Crawley and Williams could prove to be capable starters and that some combination of Swann, Moore and Harris could be good NBs.

We don't have any young players with potential at LB though. That's the need. DE as well. Kikaha hopefully comes back and who knows with Gwachum. Did they ever even explain his injury?

Nothing against Breaux, but even with all of that depth, you can't go into the season with him as your top guy with that big of a drop off. Some of the names on that list have been injured a lot. I'd say go after Johnson or Gilmore in FA and draft front 7.

First, calling Breaux just a camp body...wow

Second, he's always going to be playing the outside receiver given his strength at the LoS. Playing him at nickel would be idiotic. You match his ability at the LoS with a pass rush, and that is a recipe for success.

And yea, we can rely on him. He broke a bone in his leg, shite happens. He played in all 16 games in 2015, and did so at an exceptionally high level.

The list is long, but we need to find the best corner possible. We still need a #1 and it's why we went so hard after norman. Whether we draft one or pay for one it's needed. Just as much if not more than a DE

People on this site really overestimate Breaux since he showed a lot of promise.

Reality is, he's best as your #2 and that's not an insult to him. It's like how Greer late in his career was good enough to be a #1 still, but we were elite because he was a great #2. The injuries should limit him in terms of how you build a team, not his actual ability. If he was forced to be a #1 the drop-off isn't drastic but there's room for improvement.

PJ Williams has upside to be a #1, but injuries puts way too much risk to depend on potential with a scary injury. If he stays healthy you have a legit corner, if injuries continue to pile than you at least have a plan B.

Damian Swann showed promise to be a very good nickel, but concussions are something that can derail and shorten a career in a single play. That's not dependable either.

Moore is best served as a #4 corner, he's not awful but he's not the best guy available. He's a vet who's a good locker room guy and that's why he should be here next year. Worst case he can be your #3 guy in a pinch, but nothing more. Definitely not top 2...

Then you have the camp bodies. Webb, crawley, Wilson, and Harris. Of course there will be more but the truth is I only see 2 guys in this roster who are close to definitive keepers, Swann and Moore being the two I think is on the fence due to health and upside, if there are better options we will keep those.

he's still raw, but oakland didn't do too much on him or williams during the game. Most of their damage came after Breaux was hurt on Crawley and just going after Laurinaitis.

Even Breaux's rookie year, he was up and down. One week he totally dominated and shut down the best receivers in the game. The next week, we get a gif like the tampa game. He has such high upside, but his inconsistency makes his floor lower than a #1. That is why this FO went after Norman and should still go into this offseason with the intention of finding a #1 with high upside and a higher floor. Say we do get Gilmore and he cements the #1 spot firmly. Breaux is now the #2 and his play is more consistent. Then PJ Williams just so happens to stay healthy and continues to grow like he did the first 1.5 games of his career. You could very well have found a starting tandem like harris jr and talib; but have found a 3rd guy who steps up at any time like Roby.
