If Colston does end up leaving and we resign Meachem, can he become a reliable possession receiver for us with a bigger role? Instead of just a deep threat?

He hasn't really been used to his full potential in NOLA due to injuries and the fact that Drew has always looked to Colston, Moore and Graham first. Can that change if Colston was out of the picture?

I'm not so sure myself, but at the same time we would never know until he was put in that type of situations.

This is what sparked my question

inb4 hendersonshands says Meachem can't catch.

The talent is there, just hasn't shown consistency

I completely agree, but with the emergence of Graham does Meachem need to be as good as Colston?

If he could just work the slot and make a few more catches over the middle more often would our offense really change that much?

I understand how important Colston is for our offense and don't want him gone... just spit balling

Put it this way, it will not be good losing both meach and colston.

They need to cut Meachem or Henderson and find a more productive WR. As for Graham they need to be careful how they use him, I think they using him to much.

I don't think Meachem can consistently put up the same numbers Colston has the past few seasons.

I'd like to say that they would never be stupid enough to let both slip away. but it is very likely that we will only be able to keep one of them.

If that is the case then it would be beneficial to have one of our current receivers fill in for the production we would lose.

Arrington could replace Meachem.

but could Meachem replace Colston is the bigger question.

Could he get a bigger role? Maybe
Could he be reliable? Maybe
Could he be a possesion reciever? No

He's a fast deep threat but I don't see him as a short yardage or goaline possession reciever.

We need to sign/ draft a tall posession reciever if Colston leaves. I don't see anyone on our roster(short of Graham) taking the favorite look/ possesion/ go to spot in Drew's eye.

Meachem is 6'2 and Arrington is 6'3 the height is definitely there.

never say never. look what Drew has done with Graham in 2 seasons. As long as the ability and brains are in place then anything is possible. Meach and Arrington have both of those IMO.

The height may be there (though they're shorter than Colston or Graham) I really just don't see them being reliable possesion recievers. I've watched them play their whole NFL careers as have many of you, don't see them developing into that role

Meachem is too inconsistent to be a #1. At times, he struggles with press man to man coverage which is why he tends to disappear for long periods of time.

He isn't strong at going up & catching the ball at its highest point nor does he have 100% confidence in hands as he catches most passes by cradling them to his body. We hardly ever see Meachem catch passes with his hands only & when he has to, the chances are high that he will drops the ball.

Meachem skillset fits his role in Sean Payton's offense perfectly. He doesn't have to be the man per say but just fit in. His speed draws safety help over the top which opens up opportunities for other receivers underneath. If the safety makes a mistake then Drew burns them up top to Meachem.

Robert is more of "system" receiver then Colston. Colston skillset will bode well in any offense due to the area of the field he can work.

Yeah but there is a big difference in speed. Meachem runs 4.38 in the 40 while Arrington runs 4.54. Big difference there when you are talking about separating from defenders.

main difference is colston is a fricking man and goes across the middle of the field, makes a great catch, and takes a hit

You can't teach the type of toughness Colston has.

not nearly physical enough to run the same routes Colston does IMO

That's spot on IMO as well. Arrington is 190 soaking wet & Colston is a solid 225. Colston has that fearless mindset to go up high over the middle & take a hit while in limited action, I've yet to see that mentality from Arrington.

IMO, Meachem couldn't REPLACE Colston just because of Colston's size and his presence as a possession guy. Although, i do think if
Meachem has a productive offseason and steps up, he could produce and be a key asset to the team in a different way.

Let's face it, if Colston does leave we will never find another receiver to replace what he does and how he does it, probably ever.Be thankful we will still have Graham for that.

It would just be nice to find those 70 catches from the guys we already have.
