With the signings of Byrd and Strief to cover two off-season needs, it appears we have cut down our 1st round options to 3 positions:

1. WR
2. LB
3. CB

The bottom two might be okay if Butler and P-Rob return to those positions respectively, but you can never be too sure of it. This is also one of the deepest WR classes in recent memory so you could wait on that position until the 2nd-3rd round

If it was your choice, where would you go with that pick?

I think C is still a pretty big hole. Lelito could fill it, but I don't think it would surprise anyone if we took the best c available in the 2nd or 3rd.

Sorry, just realized you meant 1st only.

I think the absolute only way we go LB is if someone like Mosely falls. Otherwise I honestly think we just go best WR/CB available depending on the best value.

With how deep this WR class is I can see us drafting 2 WRs. Can't wait to see what compensatory pick we get for bushrod.

I agree - I consider C a need aswell. Fortunately I think it shouldn't be too hard to nab one in the draft.

IMO

1. CB/LB
2. WR
3. C
4. CB/LB

I only want a LB if he has coverage skills.. We're fine on pass rushers IMO

I forgot about that. I don't really know much about those rules though. Considering be played all year for the Bears, I think that's a good thing. But I'm pretty sure if you draft someone and they play enough, you don't get one or something like that.

Can anyone clarify?

My choice would be to trade out of the 1st round as rare as that is for us.

It has to do with the number of players you lost last offseason and the number of players you signed (calculated on the net loss of free agents). Its a formula that is sort of complex from what I gather.

Last projection I saw, we were not projected to get any compensatory picks.

A center we can wait until the 2nd-3rd round on. Unless Mosley is there, I think you go BPA out of WR/CB. I definitely think we're picking two WR in this draft since the class is so deep

It's hard to say....I didn't see us taking Vacarro last year. But I think if Beckham or Cooks is there, we're taking them.

Calculations for Compensatory Picks are a mystery. Sumpin like this-

Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time, and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick.
All compensatory picks are awarded at the ends of Rounds 3 through 7.

HERE is a guy that specializes in calculating these. Has a decent track record. He sez Saints 0 Compensatory.

Here's a bit of vague info I found
quote:

In addition to the 32 selections in each of the seven rounds, a total of 32 compensatory picks are awarded to teams that have lost more or better compensatory free agents than they signed in the previous year.[58] Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time, and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. Brown and Armstead splitting playing time sort of throw that off for me. But considering I'm sure Armstead made pennies in comparison to Bushrod, I think there might be a chance.

I want a C that can start this season. We can probably pick him up in the 3rd, maybe even the 4th.

I hope we go WR in the 1st and CB in the 2nd. We'll see what happens.

Damn Blues, beat me by that much with the same exact info

It's a mystery to me. I remember after 2012 both San Fran and Baltimore got like 5 extra picks or something nuts like that.

If Mosley is there, you almost have to take him. If the team isn't hot on the CB prospects expected to be there (Verrett, Fuller, Roby), or WR group (Cooks, Benjamin), Shaizer from OSU becomes a legitimate option. I feel pretty confident that Hawthorne will be a cap casualty next year, which will allow a Mosley or Shaizer to step right in.

I agree. Maybe something like a big guy like Benjamin in the 1st, or Moncrief in the 2nd, then a smaller, shifty guy like Josh Huff around the 5th.

I think we draft 2 WR's honestly.

I would be happy with a blazer WR in the 1st

good LB in the 2nd

Center in 3rd

Jarvis Landry or Phillip Gaines in the 4th.

I seriously doubt Landry will be there in the 4th.

Landry is probably gone by the third at the latest. I saw a ticker pointing him out specifically as a possible landing spot in Pittsburgh. That would be a great spot for him honestly.
