Alvin Kamara is an alien

I have said this before. He is other-worldly. Unique. Unbelievably elusive. Tough. Consistent. The consummate back.

Here's a nice piece on him in the first-quarter NFL MVP race:

quote:

Best non-QB MVP candidate: Alvin Kamara.

Alvin Kamara is an alien. He proved over the last four weeks that he doesn't really need a tag-team partner at running back like Mark Ingram, because there's no one else who can do what Kamara does. (Not that the Saints won't love to have Ingram back from suspension this week.)

Kamara leads the NFL with 611 yards from scrimmage, somehow ranking third in receptions and seventh in rushing yards. He can line up wide as a wide receiver and destroy a linebacker in coverage, and he can run over a defensive tackle near the goal line when he needs to. As dynamic as Todd Gurley is or as much potential as Saquon Barkley has, there isn't a running back in football I'd take over Kamara.

I love Alvin Kamara. But if he wins the MVP and Drew doesn’t I’ll be pretty miffed about it since Drew has been snubbed so many times.

The dude runs with the ball like he doesn’t give a f*ck about football, money, the team’s well being, etc.

But look at his stats. They’re amazing.

Never really seen anything like it.

I truly think he’s one of those people that doesn’t show intensity . I’ve read that some players that truly love a sport and are extremely good at it are at peace while playing . Lol, I know sounds dumb right , not saying he doesn’t have intensity on the field but he just doesn’t show it because everything comes smooth and naturally for him . He’s in his habitat avoiding people and jumping over them lol .

Kamara is everything that Saints fans expected Reggie Bush being coming out of college. Not taking anything from Reggie....he was great for the Saints. But Kamara has the same receiving abilities as Reggie while being better at running between the tackles and having better balance.

That's a pretty good way to put it.

I never thought I'd see someone run the ball similar to the way Pierre did, with how incredibly slippery he was and always falling forward. But godamn if Kamara doesn't do it even better. He just never lets anyone hit him dead on and has the uncanniest ability to slip through tackles.

I like Ingram but when we put him in over kamara we are taking the best player in the league off of the field.

I’ve read the same thing. First time I remember being aware of this was watching Manny Ramirez hit. He was such a natural at hitting a baseball that it seemed like it never occurred to him that most people would be nervous in big moments. It was almost like he didn’t care, but it really was that he was so good, he never felt pressure.

I believe Kamara is what you would get if you could combine Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas

You have to limit touches with running backs.

MVP nominees so far:

Mahomes
Goff
Brees
Mack
Kamara

A defensive player isn't getting this award so you can scratch Mack off. As legit as I think Mahomes is, he isn't going to sustain this pace. Chiefs have a history of struggling late in the season, which is mainly on Reid. Goff, phenomenal offense, so he will be in the mix. Brees is currently at 6/1 odds to win it. I could see Drew getting the Leo Dicaprio treatment this year. Where he ends it with great stats, but nowhere near his best work, but gets rewarded for years of sustained high level of play. 2018 is Brees' Revenant.

It's called being "in the zone." M Jordan was in the zone when he played basketball. He was so into it he did not notice the crowd.

I agree with you, but we are in for something worse.

If the Saints continue to roll, Drew's getting that MVP this season. Payton set out to put Brees in a position to get that passing record and win an MVP. The worse part about it is it'll come across as being gifted to him out of pity since Brees has never won it. Drew has deserved to win the MVP multiple times over his career (2011 for sure, 2013, and at least once between 2014-2016 bc with out him, the Saints might not win 2 games during that period).
