Watson will have a better O line and RB to replace this. Harris, Sanders Callaway, Smith is actually a good WR group when healthy.
Sanders didn’t thrive because he’s a big play type dude that can burn you. Brees couldn’t get the ball to him to do that. With Watson Sanders should thrive.
Someone finally gets it.
You are trading one person's production for opening up the ENTIRE offense.

Peat, Thomas, winston, 2 firsts.
Winston is a FA, can't trade him.
Trading MT13 will increase his cap hit by $1.2M in '21
Trading Peat will decrease his cap hit by $1.2M in '21.
If they can work out a deal to make is a post 6/1 trade, then trading MT13 will save $12.8M, trading Peat saves $9M. This will push $21.8M to the '22 cap
The other side of the deal: Trading Watson costs Hou an additional $5.66M, and post 6/01 trade saves them $10.5M in '21 but costs them $16.2M in '22.
Watson's cap hit to the Saints in '21 would be $10.5M in '21 & $35M in '22, regardless of this being a pre or post 6/1 trade.

Absurd.
Watson is 25 years old and is a proven super star in this league.

Yep. Watson to me was the 3rd best QB in the league this season. And has potential to be the best with Mahomes and Allen. Just imagine what SP could do with Watson. Who to me is Taysom And Brees combined into 1.

Only issue with Watson I fear is he has multiple knee surgeries in his career so that's a concern.

Hopefully shouldn’t be a problem. I believe he tore his acl?
Many QBs come back from that.
If he’s survived this long behind the Texans O line I think he will be just fine under the saints o line.

Noted that this is like a “NBA trade”
And that Watson has all the power.
Said that basically Watson can demand a trade to any team he wants. Not who the Texans want.
Somebody’s gonna have to explain this to me logically. I can understand a player like Watson that everyone seems to like having more leverage than the typical guy in his situation. He’ll have the power of the sports media behind him—they have already seemed to’ve pretty much unanimously taken his “side” over the Texans. And in this current cultural climate where liberal voices on social media have a louder and more powerful voice than the sheer numbers should allow, young black NFL players probably have more leverage today than any time previously. I concede that.
And while I don’t love the precedent of increased player power based on the backing of those 2 entities (media and social media), I like Watson personally and am certainly not willing to die on any hill crusading against him. BUT...I still don’t buy Shefter’s assertion that Watson can force a trade at all, much less to “any team he wants.” He signed his extension—which guarantees him $111 million btw—in September of last year. We’re all these unforgivable organizational sins supposed to have been committed since then? BOB dumped Hopkins for a 4th rounder and bag of balls in March. I mean, if the organization is such trash, why sign the extension?
I’ve got more thoughts on why, even though I love Watson like everybody else, a trade to the Saints makes no real world sense for either us or the Texans. I’ll spare y’all and save them for another post, though. But can anybody explain the reasoning behind why what Shefter said makes logical sense?

Yeah, but he actually has multiple ACL tears dating back to HS. I'm pretty sure he tore both knees and had I think 3 ACL tears?

Yea your right on the 3 ACL. His last tear was as a Freshmen at Clemson I think. If he plays that whole season Clemson is prob in a Natty in 2015. Those tears hasn’t affected his game much from what I can tell. But I know that once you tear your ACL it increases the chances of another tear.
Hopefully Watson can stay healthy because he’s got a bright future no matter what team he goes to.

I'm the biggest Brees fan but the last few years he has molded his game after Peyton manning, trying to confuse defenses with audibles. I know Brees has the records, and I'd love to see him come back just for the fact the fact that he doesn't go out a loser but give me DeShawn Watson or hell Jared Allen without Michael Thomas at this point. I had a drew brees autographed helmet, from the superbowl year I put on ebay for 2 bucks last night

Saints aren't getting Watson. Bree's contract has a $34 million hit against the cap the next 2 years. Also with covid the ca is going to drop from around $210M to $175M. Saints are $99M over the cap right now. There is no way this team is signing any meaningful free agents for years to come. They will need to do everything thru the draft.

Saints are dumbasses by not drafting Watson themselves. Mahomes was out of their hands but Watson was on the board but they chose Marshmallow instead.
quote:
Play here is Saints might sacrifice defense to load up on offense like they did in half of Brees career.
I feel like that is the philosophy that squandered the last few years of Drew's prime (2014, 2015, 2016). They finished 7-9 all three of those years. That being said I would still do whatever I could to get Watson. I don't think we will get him. Hopefully Sean Payton is correct about his assessment of Taysom Hill. If he is wrong about Taysom I hope he can get Winston to play up to his potential.
Gilbert was a freshman at LSU this past season.
