Ain't gonna lie, you look at the history of every CB we've taken and Molden and Porter may be considered the best. Not that they suck but if that's the best that sucks.
BUT I don't become a slave to the past because all it takes is one.
And make no mistake this is not a this year pick. This is a get him groomed under Champ for a year or 2 pick. At best he plays some nickel this year.
Next year PRob is gone and the year after Bailey and White are up(and Bailey likely done). We needed to get someone this year or next year to start grooming and the sooner the better.
I would have preferred a traditional LB but hated all the options in rounds 2 and 3. Plenty of good ones in 4 and 5(REALLY hoping we get Christian Jones).
Center would have been my next choice, but with Goodwin as an ace in the hole we didn't need to force it. This kid was too good of a value to pass up and I have no idea how he fell to us.

Well, I do like white more than Robinson.

They both have they ups and downs, but White is way more suited to nickel play. He game is tailor made for it. I wouldn't mind keeping him long term in that role.
But at outside corner we need someone for the future. Robinson and Bailey are more suited for it and Robinson has been injured and had a down year under Spags so that's really ruined his time here. Bailey isn't a long term answer, and I don't think Robinson is either even though I think he can be decent.
That's where this pick comes in. This guy is made to play on the outside and shutdown those big WRs. Bailey will man the spot this year and then next year we see if the student has learned well from the Champ.

Fine, you've convinced me.

I'm not trying to change your mind and definitely don't want to get your hopes up for nothing, but from my view and looking at the future of the position, man I really like this pick.
I'm just hoping we continue our at least decent run of 1st and 2nd rounders. Only real miss under Payton has been Charlie Brown. The quality varies with other guys, but every 1st and 2nd rounder(hell even Brown) have at least been big contributors, if not full time starters.

A little something extra from JB:

I crashed early last night. Some thoughts I had:
-Martin was right there but we took SJB instead. His upside was probably too big to pass up. I guess were weren't that inlove with Martin.
-It's hard for me to think that even if we do draft a C this year that he'll be able to come in and win the job year one, so I'd venture to guess that Lelito will be our starting C this year.
-That Preston J Gary Jr dummy kept wanting to take LSU players last night, even saying we should trade up into the 3rd for Trai Turner. He'd fit right in on TD.
-I'm thinking Kevin Norwood will be on the team before the day is over. Just a feeling.
-As much as I and other fans hate sitting here while other teams "load up," it's important to remember a) we already have one of the top rosters in the NFL and b) the majority of these guys will never pan out and c) out of the ones that do, a very small percentage will contribute year 1.

I have a feeling that, unless we snag a guy right now in the 4th who they think can start, we will sign Goodwin within the next week or so.
It makes sense that they would wait to sign him in case we can get a guy we want who can start immediately in the 3rd or something.

I would not count out Bryan Stork in the next few rounds, he's the only remaining C worth taking in my opinion.

When do we get started today?

I like Norwood and think he'd excel really well in our offense. Of course, most people would excel in one of the best offenses in the league

I love some Kevin Norwood even tho he's a Gump. I did play against him

Larry Holder had a tweet in Mid-April that said from his sources that the Saints were interested in him

Kind of a douchey tweet from Mccarron.
