I was having a drink with friends at the bar, which means no sound on the TV.

From what I could see the refs screwed up on the spot, it gets replayed, and is corrected in your favor for a first down. Then you get a 10 second run off for them originally making the wrong call.

If I misunderstood the situation please correct me, but if this is a legit rule it needs to be changed tommorow.

I am not a Saints or Texans fan, but that whole ordeal seemed completely fricked.

I just looked up the rule and it said to set the clock to three fifty and stick it up your butt.

The rule is a 10 second runoff when a player is down in bounds and the booth calls a review (10 seconds is what they say is the average to run a play/spike the ball)

However, the refs botched it badly because they assessed the 10 second runoff from the time that the Saints had lined up for the next play (at 26 seconds) instead of when Thomas was down (41 seconds)

It should’ve been Saints ball with 31 seconds and clock starting on whistle instead of 16 seconds

The mistake was that they let the clock run all the way until Drew was snapping the ball on the sneak to blow the whistle, and never moved the clock back up to when the last play ended. As someone said, the 10 second run off is to simulate the time it takes to spot the ball, line up and be ready to snap it again. That time was already taken once by letting the clock go from 41 to 26 before stopping for review, and then they took it a second time with the run off, costing the Saints at least 2 more plays.

It's also very common and there is no excuse at all for any official that didn't just come from little league to get it that wrong AND ignore people on the field letting them know they got it wrong.

essentially this

the call for a review stops a running clock... so the 10-second run off is to basically even out a running clock being stopped for a replay review... which is cool

where they screwed up was not resetting the clock to where it was when the play ended... and THEN doing the 10 second run off
