12 MVPs and 12 Rings combined with all these guys

Year 2 stats. All were 20 except MJ

Lebron was averaging 10 more mpg, Durant 7 more mpg

But Zion is a bust and not as good as projected. He should have been a late lottery pick at best. :eyeroll:

Everyone bitches and moans now if they play over 34 minutes a game.. today we have the best preventive injury methods, best recovery methods, best doctors, and best habits & diets .

But somehow the players back in the day still had long incredible careers.

Crazy

Zion might be the best offensive player at his age I’ve ever seen, now that he’s getting his teammates involved at a higher rate.

When/if he figures out how to make a positive impact on defense he can be an all-time great.

From an injury standpoint, LeBron is one of one. An exception to the rule. But who knows the toll minutes played on KD. Giannis and Jordan weren’t playing 40/game.

And it needs to be pointed out, those other guys had full seasons and normal offseasons under their belt to prepare for their sophomore outing.

Zion is doing all that he is after only playing 24 games in his first season.

All of those players had more games than Zion currently has in total under their belt the prior season.

Maybe when I get back to my computer I’ll do it, but I’d like to see a chart comparing those same players first 55 games.

But just doing a quick calculation, Lebron was only at 41% and 28% from three on 20ppg his first 55 games, -2.5 rating.....Imagine if social media and the instant demand culture of today were around for him? People would have labeled that guy a bust lol, but Zion is actually trending much better than him through 55 games and somehow had gottten people wanting to lower his ceiling.

Jordan was most certainly playing 40 minutes a game.

The stats in the list are cherry picked for him. His 2nd year he was injured. He broke his foot in game 3.
In his rookie year he averaged like 28 on 50% shooting. And 40 min a game.

Fun fact. Over their careers Jordan and Lebron average the same minutes per game. 38.3

Cherry picked? Jordan played 18 games in year 2, Zion has only played 31. Jordan didn’t have an age 20 season bc he was still in college. Nothing cherry picked about it. But I digress

Zion vs MJ per game using MJ rookie year

Shaq was absolutely fricking ridiculous and played a large part of his prime in a perfect era for him.

Anyway...yeah, Zion is good.

Wasn't Jordan's year 2 the injury plagued one? Basically what Zion had his rookie year?

ETA: Nevermind just saw yall talking about it later in the thread

But he played 40 in his 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th......
I was just saying the minutes above was an outlier. He broke his foot in game 3 of the season and attempted to come back when he shouldn't have been allowed to. It's well documented. He was on a minutes restriction for his last 15 games of the year, until the playoffs, when he went back to over 40 minutes.

Wasn’t MJ injured that year?

Still: no reason not to love this.

Zion is amazing

Yea, it's the definition of cherry-picked. You should have just not included him. It's the one season he had a major injury and was put on a minutes restriction.
It's not insulting Zion. Zion is a monster. It's just not a good comparison.
Literally every other season MJ had as a Bull is vastly superior to those splits including his rookie year.

PS: I wasn't meaning to degrade your list. I just wanted to point out that MJ played a ton of minutes just like Lebron over his career. Since that topic was brought up after the OP.

It would have been cherry picking if he was only comparing Zion to MJ, and particularly chose year 2 just because MJ had an injury plagued year 2. He was comparing Zion's second season because it's the season that Zion is currently in, not because that's MJs worst statistical season, and he wasn't just comparing Zion and MJ. Now, is using MJ a good example? No, but it wasn't "cherry picking".

ETA: he should've left MJ off for more than just that reason too, he also played a complete different position than Zion. Durant, Lebron, and Giannis basically all play the same position, and it would've made more sense just comparing those to Zion.

Michael Jordan first 55 games

Age: 21-22, 52%fg, 14.3% 3p, 27.6pts, 6.3reb, 5.5asts

Zion Williamson first 55 games

Age: 20, 62%fg, 31.5% 3p, 25.6pts, 6.8reb, 3.3asts

So yeah, Jordan was on a better pace, but he was also basically two years older with two additional years of college development under his belt. And it’s Jordan....The fact we are actually having someone starting their career in that air space on the Pels in 2021 is wild.

Well the comparison is supposed to show how they compared in year 2. One glance at MJ should have been obvious to why he should not be included. It has no relation to how elite he was at that time. (the age thing is also an issue)

I mean MJ was putting up 60 in the playoffs this year after the minutes restriction was removed.
