At the end of the day, who has the better career?

Assuming this isn’t some career threatening foot injury then I still say Zion. He put up historic numbers while essentially playing 1 on 5 on offense.

I get why fans of this team are hesitant to emotionally invest in Zion, but acting like he’s not an elite player is just absurd.

Zion

I' not convinced Ja will have 1 season better than Zion had last season.

Ja has the potential to be the next Kyrie ... Zion has the potential to be the next LeBron.

If Ja had Kyrie’s skill, his ceiling would be substantially higher.

Considering how he plays, I’d be surprised if Ja turns in consistent 70 game seasons moving forward.

This is a fair comparison and I agree if Zion is healthy. You obviously have to factor in health. Hopefully this was an anomaly and not the norm.

Who has a better career is a tough question. I’m very 50/50 on that. You can’t even say Zion has a higher ceiling at this point when you look at some of Ja Morant’s peak games, the fact that he is a guard, the fact that he can shoot threes, and the fact that he is more athletically explosive than Pro Zion (not Duke Zion).

I will say, it does seem like Ja is a safer bet to be a 15 year player. 8-10 year all star. Ja’s upside is probably MVP Russ with hopefully more of a jumper and less toxic playing style. Zion’s upside is a lesser shooting/playmaking Lebron or a better, but less rebounding version of Charles Barkley.

I also like that Ja has very openly and obviously embraced Memphis, the organization. being a leader, etc.

I’m not in the camp that Zion hates New Orleans or the Organization or anything like that, but if ever he stepped outside of his circle and said anything publicly every once in awhile we’d know more where he stood and there would be a lot less speculation surrounding his intent, character. etc. His overall strategy of silence leads to a bunch of dumb fricks trying to fill in the blanks themselves and it probably perpetuates a largely false image of Zion and what his actual thoughts are at any given moment.

Truth be told, Zion also has the potential to be the next Greg Oden.

Not sure how you can say that. Like I said, it's very likely that Morant never has a season as good as Zion's 20 year old season.

Morant has dropped 40 plus multiple times. Dropped 50 in a playoff game against Utah. Outdueled Steph in a play in game. Went head to head with Dame in a play in game and acquitted himself very well. He’s had a 14 ast game, A 13 rebound game, a 5 steal game, Multiple 4 plus three pointers made games, including a 6 three pointer made game last night. Morant is a better ball handler. Morant is great at layups. Morant can dunk. Morant has an in between floater game. Morant is the better long distance shooter. Morant is the better passer and creator for others. Morant is a negative defensively, but he does at least play the passing lanes well and creates easy buckets off turnovers.

Zion is historically great and efficient inside of 5 feet. His career high is below 40. I’m not sure that he’s ever had a double digit assist game. His highest rebounding games barely exceed morant’s. Zion has hit more than 1 theee in a game 1 time. Zion might be a better defender than Morant but the main reason for that is Zion typically guards 3,4,5’s, while Morant is having to guard elite guards night in and out. If Zion had to do that, his defensive metrics would be just as bad as Ja’s.
.
People act like Morant is a scrub or some shite lol that has a peak of a Quasi all star.

Dude is awesome and has an extremely high peak. I get that we smash Memphis every time we play them, but Ja is great and he has a chance to be great from a historical sense as well.

We need to start looking at this debate from more of a less biased perspective.

Will Ja ever score 27 a game on 62% fg? No, he won’t, bc he shoots 4-5 threes a game and a lot of other in between shots. Zion’s season was very historical and unique and likely will never be matched unless it is by himself, but that doesn’t mean other people can’t put up different stats, that are actually better than those.

For example will Zion ever average 8,9,10 ast a game like Ja can? Will he ever average multiple made threes a game? Will he ever rebound at an above average rate relative to his position? Will he ever shoot ft’s above 80%?

These are all fair questions. If we are going to hold Ja to a certain standard when comparing him to Zion, we need to do the same with Zion.

LeBron was never a lazy out of shape fat slob.
Zion will be lucky to still be playing in 5 years.

Do we really want to compare that to Zion? Thta won't end well for Ja.

The crazy numbers Ja puts up is really impressive. The crazy numbers Zion put up are historical.

The amount of times Zion has had a 13 for 15, a 14 for 15, etc., the record for most 20+ point games in a row, and so on and so forth. Ja ain't winning that comparison, and he has probably twice as many games to compare to.

Saying he can't do what Zion did going 27 and 7 on 60% shooting is not saying he's a scrub, what are you talking about?

There is only one logical perspective. The only way Morant will be better than Zion is if Zion is constantly injured. THat's it, that's the only logical perpsective. If Zion continues building and getting better than his 20 year old season, Morant will never be nearly as good as him.

Then use TS%...you think at any point in Morant's career he'll ever put up a TS% that Zion did at age 20?
