Would you trade Sexton for Graham/Kira and sweetener?

Sexton is sitting on a pretty crappy qualifying offer (and reportedly a 3yr $40mm offer) and the combined salary of Graham and Kira would more than double his qualifying offer (and add about $5mm over the offer) if a sign and trade was proffered.

Mechanics of S&T are certainly not my wheelhouse, but getting another young near all-star level scorer on a value contract (say 3 year $50-55mm) to backup CJ would seem to be a big step forward and worthy of some sweetener.

In theory a no brainer yes imo.

Though I'm not certain where we fall with the luxury tax, say, 3 years from now and obviously not knowing just how far into the tax and for how long Gayle Benson is willing to go.

Lets say we give him a 2/40mil for Graham+Kira+2nd, I would in a heartbeat.

Taking away last year, he shoots 38.5% from 3 (on roughly 4 attempts a game). He isn't a good defender and is a mediocre facilitator (not even 2:1 AST:TOV), but he's a plus scorer who can come in and probably do some damage as the "6th man".

That gives us a couple of years of having quality depth and by the time his contract is up, we should be starting to enter the tax, which allows us to flip him for something useful or let him just rot and dyson daniels to take over.

We'd be looking at:

PG: McCollum/Sexton/Alvarado
SG: Jones/Daniels/Temple
SF: Ingram/Murphy/Marshall
PF: Zion/Nance/Murphy
C: JV/Hayes/Hernangomez

Starting 5:
McCollum, Jones, Ingram, Zion, JV

Bench 5:
Sexton, Daniels, Murphy, Nance, Hayes

1) He wants $20+ million
2) He wants to start
3) Before this upcoming contract he switched to Klutch

The first 2 don't fit with McCollum being a starter here. The last one makes me think he's about to become toxic enough that turning down 3/$40something from the Cavs will look like a mistake.

Not sure he fits the team now that Jose and CJ are established parts on our team.

But at that price point. Yes, all day and twice on Sunday. I do struggle to see why Cleveland says Yes, unless the sweetener is a first that no one else is offering.

Daniels at the 1. Sexton at the 2.

Daniels. Sexton. Trey. Nance. Hayes.

That Klutch bit is interesting. But I wonder if that’s due to his good friend and teammate, Garland, also using Klutch. Could be as simple as a friend recc.

Sexton is an interesting case. Seems to be polarizing. I think on the whole, he is a good dude that works hard though. Larry Nance literally waxes poetic about the guy. Larry has played with Kobe and Lebron and he said his 2 teammates with the highest work ethic have been Ingram and Sexton. So in some ways, I think the fit works. But he would have to be our 6th man. The fit would really work in games where we are missing Zion, or Ingram, or CJ or in games we are missing 2 or all 3 of them.

I refuse to believe this franchise is just going to become randomly healthy after being a fan of this franchise for 20 years. Our training and medical staff is also super conservative with sitting players out and that is the way the nba is going in general. Sexton could very easily be in a starring role on our team for 20-30 games next season.

If Sexton has to start 20-30 games, you might as well say we’re fricked.

All that really means is CJ and/or Ingram missed the normal amount of games they always miss.

It’s one of those trades that looks like it would work great on paper, but I don’t know that he’s a fit because as stated before I think he wants to be a starter. I think he’s ultimately going to take the QO and go into next offseason as a UFA.

Yep. I’m just thinking about the possible value for a hard worker that is still young and put up 42pts in a win over the Nets with both Durant and Harden on the floor before his injury. If the Cavs don’t want to pay him then I’m all for playing money ball.

I'm glad to move kira and graham and 1 pels #1 protected top 5 for sexton.
not a pick swap year.
I've been asking TD for a good #3 guard. I won't say no to this deal if picks protected..

this is entirely me as TD Gm. its been stated sexton hopes to start and be paid starter money $20m.

What does that even mean? Are you talking about if CJ goes down?

So we're fricked if a dude who averaged 25ppg steps in but not fricked if Jose Alvarado has to play?

We all love everything about jose. Sexton is a much better player. It is what it is.

Sexton is too small to play alongside CJ and too expensive to be a second teamer. He is also a defensive liability.
Pels trade for CJ has limited trade and player flexibility.
Sexton will bet on himself and not sign the offer.

Probably he will finish like Shroeder and Noel, a minimum contract

What do we need Sexton for. We already have our bench gunner in Jared Harper right?

Do not want anything to do with Klutch.

Complete black ball.

One of our guys switches to Klutch and they immediately go on the block.
