I think CP will only sign with a big market... LA, Chicago, Boston, NY

My understanding is that the Clippers can offer him $20 mil more than anyone else as part of the new CBA that he supposedly pushed for personally.

If this is accurate, he's not going anywhere unless the Clippers decide they don't want him anymore.

Exactly. He isn't going anywhere unless it is per the Clippers.

The big market thing is overplayed these days. Look at OKC. Just be good and you'll get everything you want, doesn't matter where you are

Zach Lowe and Brian Windhorst were talking about aging max FAs like CP3 and Lowry and how their current team's willingness to give that 5th year could be key to them staying or leaving. Horford got multiple 4/$120 offers from other teams and told Atlanta if they gave him the 5 year max he'd stay. They'd only give him a partially guaranteed 5th year so he left.

I think Doc will give CP3 the 5th year because caring about the future is not something Doc the GM does. But if he doesn't where does Paul go? Windhorst and Lowe were also pointing out how the Spurs only have 1 2 way big in Aldridge and Pop doesn't like to play small ball. That doesn't sound like a team that's a CP3 away from a ring.

There is also the argument that signing a max 3 or 4 year deal would give him the opportunity to sign one more large contract

I think he would prefer the extra guaranteed 1-2 years at this point in his career. He can then play for maybe 2 years after that for an MLE-ish contract with a contender and ring chase.

Chris Paul will absolutely not consider signing anywhere except for the Clippers, and it's all because of what Number 31 explained.

Why?

We have one of the most talented players in the league on the roster.

He's going to San Antonio. Parker is not likely to be the same after this injury and Mills is a FA (one I wouldn't mind us going after fwiw) so it could wind up being a position of need for SAS. Gives CP3 a good chance at a ring with good support around him, plus Pop.
