ESPN Sources: Houston coach Mike D’Antoni is informing the franchise’s ownership today that he’s becoming a free agent and won’t return to the Rockets next season.

KOC:

No surprise here that Mike D’Antoni isn’t going back to Houston. There have been rumblings for weeks that he could be headed to the Pelicans.

Dantoni would be an upgrade over gentry but I seriously doubt he brings us close to the promised land.

For me this is a surprise. D'Antoni wants always to coach Rockets and Harden wants D'Antoni to stay.

D' Anoni

Do you have a link on the Pels rumors ?

He's an interesting choice because he's not your long term guy, but can he give you enough team and player shaping in 2-3 years to make it worth not installing your long term guy now? I'll trust the FO's judgement on this, but if it did happen I'd expect someone like Will Weaver or another up and coming assistant to be added to become the heir apparent.

Whoever we bring in is most likely going to be a stopgap. This team needs to learn how to win in the regular season and win a little in the playoffs before we talk about the grand stage.

D’Antoni will be considered among a group of candidates for the Philadelphia 76ers coaching opening, sources tell ESPN. D'Antoni was an assistant for several months under Brett Brown before accepting the Rockets job four years ago.

Is it really surprising though? Tillman is an idiot and that org hasn't done one thing right since he took over.

dantoni makes the most sense from a system continuity standpoint and the complaints about his defenses are misinformed and based on shallow analysis.

this is one of the great basketball minds of all time.
no he hasn’t gotten the ring and it’s unlikely he will do so at his next stop no matter where it is. Y’all need to ask yourselves what is acceptable and reasonably to be expected as far as team performance the next couple of years. 2nd round playoff games should be the goal and dantoni can get us there

70 year old guy doesn't leave a job without knowing he has another locked up.

By far the least inspired choice left on the board. Continues Griffin hiring guys he's already friends with. Even if this goes well, are we looking at 3 different head coaches on Zion's rookie deal?

Fun house mirror, MAYBE.

Gentry is the Chek Cola to Dantoni's Coke.

Dantoni for the most part wins.

D'Antoni also has shown he'd adapt to the personnel. Houston with CP3 and Harden was ISO heavy and 27th in the league in pace.

I think Dantoni will be our next head coach. Zion will be starting center
