Brian Windhorst on the Hoop Collective mentions Will Weaver as a candidate for the Pels whether for the lead job or as an assistant.

Tim MacMahon also mentions Jamahl Mosely as someone that might emerge as a legitimate candidate.

Says Mosely can really command respect with players. Mosely was an assistant in Cleveland when Griff was there.

Was just about to post this. It was a good to listen to convo.

As far as I know this is the first national person to mention Weaver.

Also found this article, with a good little nugget

quote:

Several candidates, including Jason Kidd, have been aiming for the lead chair in New Orleans. It is an attractive job, and it’s why New Orleans is not scared of rushing to process. The right candidate will trust the process while waiting, it will feel right, and the timing on both sides will be in sync. The impression given is all of the Pelicans’ coaching options are trying to earn the job during the interview process more than being wooed for the job. There is too much talent on the roster to just hand it over to a well-known colleague. Griffin’s links to Ty Lue and Pelicans’ General Manager Trajan Langdon’s links to Kenny Atkinson and Jacque Vaughn (re-signed by Brooklyn) only go so far when it comes to the New Orleans job.

That sounds promising. Let’s hope we start hearing new names in the coming days.

That’s good to read.

Windhorst did a good bit of talking about how much Griffin likes Lue, and why. Telling stories about the Cleveland days.

He also talked about Lue in the past sense with the job, insinuating Lue may take another job.

He also insinuated that he knew things about the job and who has interviewed but kind of laughed and said he’d get in trouble if he said anything. He was pretty positive about how big of a job this is.

Here's Mosley, Tom Izzo and Jay Bilas going deep into their defensive approaches.

Here's Will Weaver on a podcast from Oct 7. Obviously a smart guy, but if you're looking for any charisma or "commands a room" in your coach, he's not your guy. At all.

Maybe if it wasn't forbes. A bit skeptical as they never have any inside information. I hope what is written is the case though.

Woah that’s a good out of left field candidate. 76ers really liked him when he was on the staff. Honestly never thought DG would go with another international coach. He would be ideal on a longer rebuild. Hinkie was one of his mentors. Might see some moving pieces if he gets the job.

Also, is windhorst going to start having pelicans news because of DG?

I hate being this guy, cause I honestly don't care who the coach is or that it matters that much. But there seems to be an overwhelming movement for the Pelicans to make a minority hire. Either a person of color, a foreign coach or a female. I think they will end up with someone along those lines..

We’ve been talking about him on here for over a year as a possible candidate. So not left field to us at all.

The national media will wtf though.

Weaver is a VERY smart guy. He’s one of the first guys Hinkie brought in, if that tells you anything.

lol

I didn't say anything about whether or not he'd be a good coach. I'd be fine with them hiring him.

Its just really clear, because i'm a...human, that he's not going to light up a room when he walks in.
