Melli is 20% from three his last 30 games dating back to last season
That may be more than a cold streak

Melli isn’t an NBA player but he did contribute today.

He was 38% from three in his 30 before that, small sample size in each way.
His three seasons prior in EuroLeague he shot 41% from three. Though I believe that line is a little shorter.

This team would be deep in playoff contention with a solid stretch big.

1 for 7.
STRAIGHT FIRE.

20% on 89 attempts, hasn’t made more than 2 in a game in that span. I get sample sizes, but that’s a long way from 38%
Euro 3P line is significantly shorter. And they play less than half the games NBA does. I wonder if he just doesn’t have the juice between a gimpy knee, the longer line, and the more physical demand on the NBA. A lot of his attempts do seem to come up short

“Why is Melli playing?”
+\- of +18
Zion +0
Ingram +2
Hernongomez -9
All hail our Italian savior.
Lol JK. But you just sometimes don’t mess with a good thing. Even when you can’t explain why it’s a good thing or in theory it shouldn’t be

A lot of this can be explained by what he does on defense compared to our other bigs. He is much more capable of defending the pick and roll. We have 2 guys who are a bit on the slow side (Adams and HerNangomez), and another guy who often flashes over the screen too hard (Melli). Melli seems to understand how to defend the action and has the ability to recover to the roll man. With Adams still recovering, Melli was our best option on defense.

This, and if you notice Melli is almost always taking 3's from 3 feet behind the line for some dumb reason.

Why is Melli in the NBA
Because his last 4 years in Europe he averaged over 40% from 3. He got a 2 year, non minimum deal from the Pels because multiple teams were after him.
Unfortunately for the Pels he has never shown that touch in the NBA. However, he has shown veteran savvy and knows how to play defense better than Jaxson Hayes, which is why he played last night.
I would imagine that unless Melli finds his stroke soon that he'll be at a point where he needs to choose between staying in the NBA on a minimum contract next year, or heading back to Europe.

Melli is the big you need next to Zion. A stretch 4/5 that you can play in crunch time that gives zion space to work the paint. He just can't shoot. I don't know whats wrong with his shot, but it's big time broken.

Yeah, the reason that Melli hasn't done so well overall at the 5 is that he offers almost nothing in rim protection. Adams, Hayes, and Hernangomez are all much, much better at blocking shots.
But Nico is always in the right place at the right time and is fundamentally sound. Sometimes, that's enough.

Made his first 4, (my bad) plus a ridiculously clutch 3 to force OT against the Raptors in the opener.
Sentiment was correct. The man entered the league en fuego.

The Internet: Exists
Frustrating people: Also exists
Frustrating people who don't understand that things other than shooting percentage can result in a positive, if not crucial contribution to a win: Definitely exists
The entire subset of these people: Exists on TD.com

That’s his only way to guarantee open looks. Can’t make anything happen on his own, so he goes as far out as he can to where he can still hit rim, but knows no one will actually guard him

We are so far removed from the Antonio Daniel's "bust they head Nico" Melli.
Harris is at Texas now.
