The easiest answer is LA because the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis is a scary thing to witness. However, it might not be the best pairing as they are moving LBJ to the Point, a position he has taken over in games but was never the team's listed PG. There are huge differences from filling in and starting as a PG and I think it'll take them a little while to find their grove.

Anthony Davis staying healthy is another issue. He is guaranteed to miss 10-12 games, or more with injury.

I predict the Lakers finish season with 48 wins

Without diving deeply into my scouting of the new look Pelicans, I will say this, our defense is going to be legit. Jrue and Lonzo are going to be tough to play against, and if you can stop a team's PG, you can control their offense. This will turn into wins for the Pelicans against team's like Clippers, Rockets, Warriors, and Lakers.

Pelicans win 50-52 games. YEP!

Top end talent there is amazing but to sustain it throughout a season should be interesting. They better hope their bench can pull in some minutes to not lose games.

Lakers.

Don’t think they’ll be great, but I’d be shocked if the Pels won more than 42-46 games

Lebron is pretty damn old and is going to start getting dinged up with more consistency. AD will AD. Cousins has has his recent injuries. Rondo is old. They have a bunch of guys who if healthy will probably play well. But a lot of injury dominos have to fall in their favor.

you dont want to be old and beaten up in the NBA for 82 games

by the time the season ends Lakers Roster and key contributors will be aged to put it lightly

LBJ 35 (defensive liability)
Dudley 34
Rondo 34 (shooting/defensive liability)
Green 32
McGee 32
Cousins 29 (health/effectiveness concerns)
Davis 27 (health concerns)

Davis, Bradley, KCP, Kuzma, Cook are the only contributors in or near their prime everyone else is already on that downward slope

I think they have more than us this year but next year and the years after we will have more than them.

Lakers are gonna be good, no shame in admitting that

We are gonna have a competitive year but our youngins still gotta learn how to win

Lakers win 50, we win 38

Lakers come up short in playoffs, we comin every year after that

I really think people are going to be disappointed in us this year. Not because we're going to have a bad season. I think we'll have a great season all things considered.

But a team with effectively 0 returning players, it's going to be very difficult to come out the gate firing (Jrue will be playing 80+ percent of the time with 4 other brand new players on the floor, his knowledge and chemistry with the past 6 years of teammates won't help him there). Remember it took nearly a full year with a full offseason to fully integrate just Rondo boogie.

If I'm wrong and we win 42+ games this year and look competitive in the playoffs, it'll be the most delicious crow I'll have ever eaten. I just think people are getting miles ahead of themselves talking like we're going to be solidly in the playoffs.

I pray I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Yeah 38 feels like our ceiling

MAYBE 40-42 if Ingram makes the leap

I wont be disappointed unless our season ends in early March

if we can at least challenge the whole way for the 8th I would be happy

if we get it the season is a home run

anything more on top of that and Griffin needs his face painted at midcourt

We probably need Ingram to take another leap AND we'll need health from Zo AND we'll need Jrue to transition to permanent Evil Jrue for us to be solidly in that playoff mix. Even that might not be enough.

That's not the end of the world. We will have one of if not the youngest team in the league next season. It's going to be ok. I just hope people don't give up on our team simply because they don't live up to extremely lofty expectations in year ONE.

ETA: It's also VERY possible for us to finish 10th or even 11th in the West, while only being 3 or 4 games out of the playoffs. This west race is shaping up to be unprecedentedly tight. I could easily see a scenario where the gap between 1st and 8th is like 6 or 7 games.

I agree that we definitely have an uphill climb and the Lakers will easily be better than the Pels.

But 38 seems like a low ceiling, that’s a handful of games under .500. Pels have some decent talent with Lonzo, jrue, BI, Zion, redick, favors.

I think .500 is reasonable.

That’s why I went for 42-46. The team is talented enough for .500. But we shouldn’t compare to the Lakers, they’ll win 50+

The Lakers are in same boat, they are starting an entire new team from scratch. We will see how it plays out for them but they effectively have no point guard. What happens when Lebron misses games and he will??

Lakers with 100% certainty if both teams don’t suffer major injury.
