I could be totally off, but I feel like Becky Hammon is the coach-in-waiting for the Spurs when Pop leaves/retires. She played in SA, and has been brought up via Pop. That and the whole Spurs org being social justice warriors, like "we did this!"

Why Atkinson? I looked up his record at &Brooklyn. He finished above 500 once in his 4 years there, and even then he was just barely over. He had a less than 40% winning average.

With the uncertainty of college sports due to Covid, maybe we can pluck Jay Wright. I know that will make Josh Hart very happy.

Atkinson is my top choice. Without researching all the names yet, Ham and the soon-to-be-available Brett Brown are in my next tier.

He and Marks inherited one of the worst situations in NBA history. The young players noticably improved year to year and their defense improved year to year as well. He never had that much talent until this year until Kyrie and KD forced him out over playing time over DeAndre garbage Jordan.

this Atkinson did a very good job there. Only issue I may have is apparently he gives a lot of players minutes similar to Gentry.

Atkinson. Want him simply because of his player development and all the young talent we have.

Atkinson very probably will coach Chicago Bulls.

Kidd, Lue , Vaughn and maybe Hammon are the very possible choices to the Pels

Part of that is player development.

I’m on the Dan Craig pain train don’t @ me

His team dominated the G league 4 years ago, he’s known for developing talent, liked a respected by Pat Riley and players in the Heat organization. His g league team gave up 98 points a game. That’s impressive. Has learned from Pat Riley and Spoelstra. Those bucks assistants would be good too tho

I wanted Atkinson but I’ve been reading some stuff that makes me question it. Charles Lee or Darwin Ham are intriguing to me.

Anyone besides these recyclable coaches. Only exception is Atkinson because of how he got fired.

Sounds familiar. Can’t make excuses for one and not the other

quote:

Pelicans were plagued by injuries during Gentry’s tenure. They used a league-high 140 starting lineups in a possible 400 regular season games.

That’s the most starting lineups in the league in that span according to @EliasSports.

Gentrys winning % has been a talking point for many rubes here . Bad teams and organizations nonwithstanding. Of course KA’s 38% win rate makes Gentry’s 46% look palatable

Gentry had Anthony Davis a superstar (as much as I hate to admit). Who did Brooklyn have?

That’s nonsensical.

Atkinson did inherit one of the worst situations in NBA history, and improved every single year. His record is over the course of 4 seasons. And he gets a bit of a pass for having to do deal with Kyrie. Context is key.

The longer you’ve been a coach, the less context you need.

On the flipside, Gentry has been a NBA HC over the course of SEVENTEEN seasons. 17. And he’s been a loser in all of them except 3.

Here he had AD and Zion and Jrue and did jackshit and his teams regressed.

If Atkinson fails in his next job he won’t get the benefit of the doubt as much as Gentry has.

Not even remotely comparable. Gentry had AD and Jrue. Atkinson had......Spencer Dinwiddie...Jarrett Allen...Caris LeVert...Joe Harris..... I don't think he even had as little as a high draft pick to work with that I can remember. And Gentry's resume is 40 years of mediocre. Atkinson has 4 years of promising steady improvement.
